Do you consider the apple fritter a donut?

It's an interesting debate. On one hand, it's fried dough with a glaze so it's a donut and available in almost every donut shop. But on the other, it's certainly not round with a hole, and many apple fritters have small chunks of apple filling in them- not a donut characteristic.

Thoughts?

No. Donut should have a hole, or a filling.

No, it is a fried pastry available at a donut shop, but that does not make it a donut.

No, not a donut, but an absolutely delicious fried dough treat with a delectable apple glaze!

That's basically the definition of a donut

If that’s the standard for a donut, then the world of donuts is much larger than I ever thought

If so, would the same go for boudin balls bought at donut shops?

Uhm... it's a fritter, so no. It's not a donut.

Spin-off question.
Which spelling do you prefer?

Donut
or
Doughnut

then filling is not a doughnut characteristic?

Dunkin Donuts has a powdered cinnamon apple pie donut with small chunks in it that is fantastic.

With that said apple fritters are so fantastic that it don’t give AF what you call it, just enjoy it.

Yes.

Fried dough is a donut, regardless of shape.

Or is it a donit? Classic video. So much to unpack. Why is Dutch meeting with an attorney?
