kinda long, follow me if you can
we are getting the dining plan and we have some favorites, but thinking about mixing it up a bit this year to try as many different places as possible
we haven't had many of the buffets before, but have heard alt of good things about them recently, so thinking of giving some a shot
the california grill is one of our (if not our) favorites, but thinking about just going there for drinks and to watch wishes, then go to chef mickeys for the buffet for dinner and save the table service
we were planning on trading in 2 table services for 2 meals...the hoop dee doo review and we were going to do the buffet at cinderellas royal table
another table service we wanted to use was at the rose and crown the night we wanted to watch illuminations...so that basically leaves us 1 table service left
follow me here
7 table services to use
-hoop dee doo = 2
-cinderellas royal table = 2
-chef mickey = 1
-rose and crown = 1
thinking about
-kona cafe @ polynesian
-tuto italia (italy in epcot)
-Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano @ hollywood studios
any suggestions for a table service?

+1 and add Cafe d'France in Epcot DOWNSTAIRS not up stairs and ask for Liggio.

Sounds like you have been a few times. I have a quick question. Going for the 1st time with the kids in February (Ages 4 @ 2) we are for definitly doing the cinderella dinner. What are some of the better places to take the kids???

this is what i read on ohana
quote:
The food quality varies from mediocre to poor. There is relentless Hawaiian 'lounge act' type entertainment that includes singing, ukulele playing, limbo contests and races where children push coconuts around the restaurant, all on hardwood floors. The noise level is extremely loud and the ambience is best described as chaotic. 'Ohana has a large and loyal following who obviously see something we don't.

I've never seen anything like this at Ohana, there are kids around because its DISNEY WORLD but there are no contests or races or anything like that.

for dinner, lunch or breakfast?
on dining plan or not?

I never even saw an act there or coconuts pushed around.. Maybe we dined too late for that. We got a seating for the fireworks display. Not as good a view as the Cali Grill but if you timed it right you could eat then go down and lay in the hammocks and watch it which would be great. I found the food to be really good. The shrimp were hard to peel but the steak and the pork were great as were he pot stickers. Its likely the most food you will ever have thrown at you in your life. The Bananas Foster Bread Pudding is the best dessert I have ever had at a Disney resort.

Under the sea at Epcot was very good. The buffets are all the same pretty much.

a four-year-old and a two-year-old ? you do realize that you could take them to the cinderella castle or a UFC fight at this age and they won't remember any of it 10 years from now .. right ??
why do people take kids under five to disney and drop $6K is beyond me .. wait until they are 10 or older and can actually remember the trip and get something out of it ..

Coral Reef is the aquarium-based restaurant in Epcot.
There are certainly coconut races and limbo contests for the kids at Ohana; that said, we always enjoy the food. The Hawaiian lounge act vibe is precisely why the Polynesian has such a loyal following. The Polynesian resort takes theming far past decor.
There is a school of thought that says do not spend 2 table service credits on a meal; however, table service every day is a pretty large time commitment.

one of my biggest concerns is making reservations at epcot (rose and crown) for illuminations and requesitng outside seating, then them saying they don't have it and seating us inside...
if that ends up happening, i'll just tell them no thanks...enjoy another beer, watch the show and head to italy for dinner

I knind agree with the age thing but as a parent, you want to enjoy it thru their eyes too so it is a tough call.First took mine at 8 and 6 and even now at 38 and 36 they remember and took theirs to the same exact places w/pictures this past summer.
At your kids age, they won't remember much but will remember balloons and ice cream and loud noises and bright lights so be sure and do the fireworks and night parade in Epcot and Magic Kingdon.

well, we don't have kids and the the meals we are using 2 table services for are more for the experience, not for the quality of food
the royal table at cinderalls castle is only $40 a head, so i guess it might make sense to use cash for that one and save the 2 table services

Um yes I do realize that but to see my kids happy for a week is Kinda improtant to me.. And I don't care about spending money, I am not on a fixed income.

My ranking of the buffets/ all-you-can-eats we've experienced:
Ohana
Boma
Whispering Canyon Cafe
1900 Park Fare
Chef Mickey's
All are good. Boma is the only one without a dog and pony show. The schtick at Whispering Canyon can be intolerable if you're not in the mood; same at Ohana. Both Boma and Ohana get extra points because of nice bars to hang out in while you wait.
