I'm not sure if you think a Hibachi grill dinner is nice but my toddlers(2 & 4) are pretty well behaved and entertained by the chef. Also most Japanese restaurants have the hibachi grills located off to the side of the main dining area so if you time it right you may have the area to yourself. My favorite place is Tokyo Cafe on Perkins by Bluebonnet.

Sammy's has been my daughter's favorite restaurant for years. They have a good kids menu, a fish tank, a small game room. It's loud and nobody really gives a shite if a kid is running around.

That's a good idea. We went with about 16 people for a family birthday last month and took the 1 and 4 year olds. They were fine and enjoyed the activity. There was only one other table on that side of the restaurant far away from us. We took up two of the hibachi tables, but the chef only cooked on one of them, so we let the 4 year old move around a little bit to see better depending on what was going on.

I definitely think the activity at ichiban would distract him, I'm just unsure of what he would eat.

The only issue with giving an iPad to a 2 year old is the possibility of a broken iPad.
