Exactly!!! While you're dining on fine wine and good food, your car is being smashed. Then the night is ruined, no matter how good the food was.

Definitely Herbsaint if you are on Girod. If you want a straight up steak place, Desi Vega in the Lafayette Hotel is nearby.

Pascal's makes me miss Crazy Johnny's bbq shrimp (dipping shrimp) was like a third the price of everyone else. Still can't believe a place that only has cheap "filet" steaks, salad and shrimp hasn't come back. Great low overhead concept.

August is an amazing experience but doubtful you could get in Friday without already having reservations.
Their desserts are not to be missed. The deconstructed PBnJ sandwich was delicious. Would be a 2 star Michelin easily.

Meril is delicious. It's priced well too. I haven't been since covid, though the one thing I hated about the place was the birthday celebration. If it's your birthday you get a firework with cotton candy and stuff. So it looks cool. It's one of those things you see and you kind of want. So before you know it 4 or 5 tables "have birtdays" and your eating dinner at what now smells like a fourth of July picnic or new years outside party.
Other than that food was great.
Surprised no one else recommended OG Emerils. Solid dishes and a good atmosphere. The chocolate souflee is better than the commanders Bread pudding it's based off of.

For the area and food type definitely Herbsaint or Peche. Can't go wrong with either.

AirBNB in New Orleans to celebrate an anniversary is an interesting choice

Not GW Fins. I was extremely disappointed the second time we went.
That’s because GW Fins is trash. The people that rave about it are tourists from Nebraska and Kennerites who eat in the city once a year. It sucks and has always sucked.
Herbsaint or Peche are good options.
Fyi I looked at reservations for Friday night.

My worst meal experiences have all been at August. I sent food back to the kitchen once in my life and it was at August. Completely inedible.

We’re going to see incubus Saturday night.
Trust me.
I avoid New Orleans as much as I can nowadays.

5 Course Blind Tasting - The way to go
My husband picked out this place after watching an episode of Vice's Muchies series. Upon arrival, we were seated by the front window and the menu was explained. We decided to do the 5 Course Blind Tasting Menu (with wine pairing). This is actually a lot more than 5 courses as they bring 'snacks' to start. These snacks are actually quite sizable and I believe they could count as a 'course'.
Doing the tasting menu allows you to really taste the best of what the chef has to offer. My fave couple of dishes were: smoked catfish puree, white asparagus soup w/crawfish, red snapper, and the duck. There was much much more. Needless to say, we were both stuffed. The wine pairings were superb and the pours are not stingy. Our waiter was great and explained every dish and came around multiple times to see how we liked the dishes. This was one of our best food nights in New Orleans

I suggest leaving the car at the Airbnb and take Uber to the restaurant and back.
