Hubby and I are planning a trip to New Orleans in September with our son (he'll be 7 months old at the time). Are they any nicer restaurants where we can eat and not immediately receive death stares for bringing in a baby?

We'll eat early to avoid peak crowds and one of us will whisk him out with a quickness if he gets fussy. I don't want to ruin anyone's meal, but we'd still like to eat well while we're there.

Would he be welcome at Commander's during the jazz brunch?

I can't comment on NO restaurants, but Infants are fine most places, IMO. Infants have a schedule you can use to your advantage to keep them quiet or asleep, are restrained at all times, and even if they do "act up", they are much easier to walk out and calm down very quickly with a tit, binkie, whatever...

But as soon as they get off the tit/bottle, might as well skip eating out (anywhere nice) for 2-3 years. Too much trouble for everyone involved.

How nice are we talking? Commanders would certainly accommodate you because of their stance on impeccable service. You could definitely do the more casual places like meril, peche, etc.

More neighborhood-y places are better IMO for infants.

Places like Katie's, R&O's, Blue Crab, etc.

Doesn't have to be white tablecloth, but some place we can have nice experience.

Oh, and MIL will be with us and she has a shellfish allergy (bless her heart). She'd probably like a nice steak.

Infants are easy as they usually sleep. I took my 6 week old with us to LaBoca. You'd have never known she was even there. Now that she's a toddler, I wouldn't do that since she is more prone to outbursts and what not. But she's great at restaurants that are louder (R&Os, Mexican places, etc.)

My daughter went to Commanders at 7 months and it was fine for dinner. We also went for her own 1st birthday brunch.

Yes. My stepdaughter's kids have been going to lunch at CP since born practically. It's loud and festive, a 7 month old won't cause a problem for anyone.

hell no. take the baby to a cafe. People dropping over $100 on brunch don't want to listen to your kid crying.

I've seen infants in Commander's and never heard a peep. It's pretty loud in there for brunch, so the baby would have to be pretty loud to be heard over the music etc..., plus they'll take the baby out if there's crying.

Yes, thank you Gris.

To reiterate, at the first signs of fussiness, he's getting taken outside. I'm not trying to ruin anyone else's meal.

We brought our daughter to Toups when she was a little under a yr. Not fine dining, but certainly a nice meat fest dinner.

When you have a kid, you are accepting the fact that you can't go many places for at least 5 years. ( Unless you have a sitter)

Bringing a baby anywhere is trashy. This includes restaurants, sporting events, theaters, libraries, and strip clubs.

I'd expect a response like this on the OT, but not FDB.
