I know I could google it, but was curious on everyone’s thoughts. I feel like it’s the same thing

One is found in a home kitchen or on a menu, the other in a TV dinner?
Sorry, that's all I got...
Thanks to the miracle of AI, it sounds like Salisbury Steak has more binders and flavorings for a slightly different texture and more umani profile...more like a meatloaf compared to a burger patty with onions and gravy.

I've never had a good Salisbury steak and I've never had a bad hamburger steak.

I always took Salisbury steak as having egg/breadcrumb whereas hamburger steak doesn't have the meatloaf additives.
Edit: Anytime I hear of Salisbury steak, I think of that stouffers frozen dinner.

Same. Hamburger steak is basically true to its name, it is essentially just a hamburger patty served by itself. Salisbury is essentially a single serving meatloaf almost.

North of the Mason Dixon line it's called Salisbury Steak.
Don't be a Yankee
and if you're in the Baton Rouge area try the Hamburger Steak at Roberto's Roadhouse in Sunshine.
Excellent!
