Delacroix Restaurant is set to open soon, bringing a rare dining room with a view of the river to New Orleans and a menu based on rustic Louisiana flavors.
It's the latest from BRG Hospitality, with co-founder chef John Besh is taking the lead again.
quote:
A new chapter begins at 1 Poydras St, Spc 1005. Between the Four Seasons and Audubon Aquarium, our sign marks the spot where memories will be made and traditions come together.
Looks like it's going to be the general Spanish Plaza area.
quote:
Bringing all your favorites from down the road to Spanish Plaza, including Isleño cook Don Melerine's famous Caldo Isleño, a recipe passed down from his mother.
From his grandfather’s barroom suppers to his annual pots at Los Isleños Fiesta, Don keeps the heritage alive, one bowl at a time.

We are excited to welcome Delacroix on Spanish Plaza!
Rooted in French tradition and infused with Louisiana flair, Delacroix offers an elevated dining experience, highlighting the finest local seafood prepared with creativity and care. Be on the lookout for an official opening date!
Delacroix will be open daily for lunch and dinner—Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m. Experience coastal charm and elevated dining, coming soon to the riverfront!

Restaurants that can take advantage of a river view are rare in New Orleans

Looking at the background, this is the spot right here. What bar/restaurant was there before?
ETA: Looks like they remodeled "Crazy Lobster" which closed in 2018

Speaking of restaurants with a great view of the river, what is happening in that space above the French Market that used to be Bella Luna? That was an excellent restaurant in beautiful surroundings.

The owner now owns Middendorf's
The building is a private wedding venue now

Here's a story about how messed up the French Market Corporation is. They have written into their lease that everything inside falls under the purview of the business owner, but everything outside is their responsibility. So after Katrina, there was some major damage and Horst had it in his heart to reopen. He underwent extensive renovations at his own expense on the interior, all the while under the understanding that the FMC was doing their part on the exterior, which there was work to demonstrate. However, they hire the absolute worst people, the bottom bidder, rather than someone who will get the job done right, and as a result, the repairs, "repairs" weren't done properly. The next big storm comes after Horst has invested all this money and all of a sudden it's all ruined because they didn't patch the roof or do any of the work to fix the exterior they were supposed to. So he went and turned in his keys, told them to go F themselves, and walked away. He focused his efforts on his little farm for a bit, bought and operated "The Foundry" for a second, then ended up buying Middendorf's where he now thrives.

No one in the city curates a menu like John Besh if he’s dialed in

Had friends there this weekend, as well. Best was making his rounds visiting tables. They said it was really good. We’re going when we’re in town in a few weeks.

Tangled up in Blue should be their theme song...
"I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell
So I drifted down to New Orleans
Where I lucky was to be employed
Working for a while on a fishing boat right outside of Delacroix"
