My girlfriend has a severe gluten allergy so I've been trying to make her sourhern foods that are gluten free. Turns out it's really hard. Now I want to deep fry some fish. Anyone know a type of flour that deep fries well? I tried cocnut, but it doesn't come out right.

You've got corn starch, potato starch, tapioca starch, puffed rice, rice crispies, gluten free panko...the pork rinds suggestion was awesome. Just add egg wash.

...even these things...

Mix fine cornmeal with corn flour or corn starch until you get the crust you're looking for.

Just cook as normal, she will likely have moved on to the next in vogue self diagnosed ailment before it cools enough to eat anyway.

In her defense, celiac disease is very real, although most (IMO) really don't have it and yes, it does appear to be a trend.

I was out to eat with coworkers and one person told the waiter that her dish needs to be gluten free. Four other ladies at the table switched to gluten free dishes as well, assuming that gluten free is a "healthier" option.

If she really has celiac disease diagnosed by a doctor I apologize for my comment, it is the new trendy thing to have, mostly claimed by idiots that do not even know what gluten is.

It is extremely rare but somehow nearly every young female has it.

I am the most cynical person on this type of thing but since limiting my gluten intake, I have had way less stomach problems, lost 10 lbs and my chronic heartburn has disappeared.

You are eating healthier and reaping the benefits, not suffering from celiac disease. Huge difference

If I were to give up beer the results would be the same, does not mean I am allergic to it.

I LMFAO every time I see someone drinking a beer claiming they have gluten allergies.

I had three weeks straight of diarrhea. While i do not think I'm allergic to gluten, avoiding it has fixed this problem (even if it is placebo, I'll take it). I'm regular as sure as the sun rises.

Good deal man, glad it worked out for you. Pretty sure that most of us could use far less refined ceria in our diet, can't give up the beer or bread though, not enough will power.

You should be able to find GF flour at select grocery stores. Trader Joe's & Whole Foods for sure... there's a chance Target and Albertsons types may have something similar. Almond flour probably would be weird. I've used rice flour in the past but never with fish... worth a try if nothing else is found.

Also, at people who care so diligently about what others choose to put in their bodies and offer no useful information to the OP. Luckily they make themselves known early on

Good luck op. Update us on what you use

Eta I say Rice because I find it to be a little lighter than an almond meal which may fall off or crumble more easily while you're frying.

Mix coconut or almond half and half with tapioca flour. I'm eating keto and did shrimp like this last week and they were great.

Corn is gluten free and that's what most fish is fried in. Don't overthink this.
