Went there tonight and was a little underwhelmed to be honest. My wife had the calamari (which I thought was somewhere between ok and above average. I had the BBQ shrimp which was flavorful but incredibly difficult to peel.

I guess what I'm posting this for is to ask, how does this place compare to others as far as the bbq shrimp is concerned? I've heard so much about that dish but as stated earlier, was underwhelmed. Is this just the wrong place to get it?

Pascal Manale's is the standard unit of measure. They introduced it.

Deanie's is hardly a place to go to be blown away, IMO

Underwhelmed? You have to have expectations in the first place for that to happen. It's Deanies. In Metairie.

That place is about 20th on the list of fry houses when I'm looking for food in that category in the NOLA area.

Deanie's is mainly a place to get fried seafood.... Go in thinking your blood pressure is about to double. I've tried their BBQ shrimp and it's OK but not the best.

To be honest I also just found Pascale's to be ok as well.... Yeah I know they invented it but that doesn't mean others can't improve on it. Other originals I've tried that didn't blow me away and others have tweaked and improved 1. Oyster rockefeller at Antoines 2. Muff at Central grocery.

Try Mr. B's for excellent BBQ shrimp

I've only had muffelattas at central grocery in New Orleans. I love them. Where are they better?

That is the standard unit of measure for muffs.

You hit the apex with that one.

I just prefer muffs that are warmed up.... Central had good ingredients I just found it dry.

I love Liuzzas Frenchaletta

You gotta put it on the dash of your car on the way home.

Or pop it in the oven at 300° for a few minutes during the winter months.

Who don't know dat?

My favorite muffalatta is R&O's.

I haven't eaten at Deanie's but maybe a few times and that was a long time ago. I didn't find it to be very good. I didn't have bbq shrimp. I like Mr. B's bbq shrimp. I find Manale's to be tasteless and heavy on oil. The oysters rock there, though, rock.
