Did some ribs the other week with one of my friends and he did a rack with amaretto in the aluminum foil.
I thought he was nuts, but the ribs came out amazing.
What’s the weirdest ingredients you have ever used while cooking ribs that shockingly surprised you?
Another one my brother did was put some liquid crab boil in his…….. let me just say it was very different.

You can do just about any flavor with ribs and they will most likely be good. They are very versatile. But nothing beats good ribs done right.

I put Hoisin sauce on some baby backs one time because I was out of bbq sauce. Apparently that’s what the Chinese are prone to do. They turned out pretty good. So since I’ve googled around and tried to tweak it. Last effort was this. It only makes enough to sauce a rack or 2.
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
1 tablespoon honey
Add to taste:
siracha
Minced garlic
Soy sauce
fish sauce
Pretty damn good

Sounds like a good sauce but I'm not defiling a rack of ribs with it...

Sometimes you just have to throw $14 to the wind and see what happens.

Zeas has made a small fortune “defiling” their ribs in a similar manner

Put homemade pepper jelly in the foil doing 2-2-1 method baby backs ribs, then basted with the foil drippings to create a glazed exterior. Highly recommend trying it sometime!

Those red sticky ribs are chinese char sui style. I like Chinese BBQ (char sui style) just about as much as American BBQ. The recipe LSUballs posted is similar to make a char sui sauce. Need some Chinese 5 spice seasoning and a few other ingredients If I remember correctly. Hard to top char sui bao or char sui roast pork or ribs for me.
ETA: except the sriracha- doesn't belong anywhere near char sui, at least by my tastes.

Ribs over coals turned every 30 seconds with lime juice applied at every turn. Was not good

In a rib thread from last week, I saw someone suggest cooking ribs in cream of mushroom soup

pork ribs are cheap and worth the experimentation.
i would agree with you on beef short rib plates or brisket. that shite is too expensive to frick around with.

Finally found what to do with all the pepper jelly I've made.
