Yeah. We did a lot of the same last year, as I recall. Came across various variations I had written down

Yea I remember too.

I got 3 sacks and did 1.5 in 2 different pots at the same time. 2 bags each in a 100qt and a 120qt. 100 qt was perfect.

Louisiana. Just enough spice, and not too salty like Zatarains. I use Zatarains liquid during the soaking time though.

Is there really one that is better than anything else?

Opinions will vary based on personal taste. I spent the off season taste testing several different commercial seasonings. On fried eggs, on scrambled eggs, on grilled chicken, boiled peanuts etc, etc, Some of my taste test were blind. Right now, Louisiana Brand is number one for me with Cajun Land coming in second. Somewhat surprisingly third was Zaterains Pro Boil. There is something in that blend that interest my taste buds...not sure what it is. There were several others, but by no means all of them.

i tried making my own or combinations of store bought plus additions and in the end found its best to just get the zatarans dry mix and use it as-is for a "mild" seasoned boil, plus i add liquid crab boil when more pepper heat is needed

I use a combination of 3 from zatarains: dry, liquid and bags. All 3 together seem to be just right, any of them alone are lacking. I found no matter what you use you have to stay as close to the recommended water amount of the dry mix instructions to get the full flavor as intended. If I remember correctly one bottle of zats dry mix is only supposed to go to 5 gallons of water...Any more than that and you're just watering down your main ingredient.

Always get extra bottle cayenne, garlic powder , onion powder and celery salt for extra kicks. Lemon oil if it's available, and I add it just before the soak.

1 bag louisiana per sack.

When y'all are saying a box of salt, do y'all mean the 3lb box?

Lately I been doing a big bag of LA and a small 1lb bag of swamp fire and maybe a little salt/Chyanne. Sometimes some powerderd onion and garlic along with some fresh. May switch it up this year with some of these others.

Capt. Sids in Bucktown sells their seasoning they use to boil seafood. Pretty good stuff! Sometimes I get some from there.
