everything that abita brews is fine, well above the macro brews in quality & taste, are readily available without cloak & dagger machinations and are priced right

This is spot on. Abita is the Target of the beer world. Like Target is better than WalMart, but not as good as botique stores. Abita is better than the other Macros, but not as good as the small specialty craft guys.

There's nothing wrong with Abita beer. It fills a niche.

Although not craft beer per se, I've always thought that Samuel Smith's Lager was a well-balanced example of the style. I like drinking them.

I think Ten Fidy is appropriately rated, thus the scarcity.

I don't know if i'd call these "underrated" but these were my go to beers, before we got more options like new Envie and Commotion.

Lagunitas IPA
Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin
Lagunitas Pils
Founders Porter
Founders Centennial
Stone Ruination 2.0
Stone Levitation (RIP)
most Stone beers
Sweetwater Hop Hash
Sweetwater 420
Southern Tier Live

and i may get some shite for this, but i really enjoy Sapporo with sushi. I'm as big of a beer nerd as the next guy, but i enjoy Sapporo, and i also enjoy Negro Modelo at mexican restaurants. Both go down well with the food.

To me, the underrated beers are the ones that I enjoy drinking, but usually don't order, because there is something else available that I want more. That something else may not be a better beer, but it may not be as available, or it might be a seasonal that I need to drink while I can.

Underrated beers are my "fallback" beers. I have a lot of them. Thanks to the magic of online taplists, I don't have to settle for my fallbacks very often...

Timber beast. We go through cycles where it is hard to find fresh

Fresh really is an important part of the equation.

This is a serious truth. Very good beer that even here in Georgia is under the radar.

I do have a problem with some that people list. I don't think Founders All Day, SN Pale Ale, Anchor Steam among other are under the radar on this planet.

Edit: The thread is Under the Radar, not Underrated.

If I'm just reaching for a 6 pack I wouldn't think twice about
Stone IPA or Delicious
Dales
anything with a Founders label

Yeah... often overlooked maybe?

To some degree "under the radar" and "widely available" contradict each other.

yeah, I guess I meant that Anchor is more overlooked than under the radar

By the time a beer reaches widespread distribution, I don't think it can be under the radar anymore
