Has anyone been since the storm? What’s the scene like- massive crowds? Lack of inventory? I need to stock up today.

They have the gas line run behind the building and down the service road so the parking lot is open for regular customers who aren't getting gas. I'll report back after while when I go make a run.

My wife just got back. Lines weren't terrible and the shelves were well stocked.... She didn't need to get gas but the lines were very long.

It keeps the inside of the store from being too busy.

Side note, you already know Costco has the same generators that hospitals use.. If not better..

I went a couple of days ago and the meat and bread selection was slim but wasn't completely out. The gas line was wrapped around the back of the building and surprisingly moved rather quickly. I was impressed.

Yeah just got back. Tons of people and long lines but they move quickly. Shelves are full except for bread which is completely gone. Noticeable increases in prices on meat. Gas line is wrapped around the building but they are good about organizing it. Regarding generators there were two people in front of me buying large (7500kw) Firman brand units. They are about $1000 each and there looked to be a few left.

Plenty of food on the shelves, lines moved quickly, hot dog was delicious.

This is not storm related, Costco won't raise prices during a disaster even if it means losing money.

Monday it was a ghost town, but they maybe had 10 people running the store so that was a good thing...

It was slow during the week, and is still slow to costco standards, but they just don't have enough employees showing up. Costco pays well and a lot of employees live east and simply haven't been able to return to work. They are also manning the gas lines with 5 people, if you ever noticed Costco does a heck of a lot of business without a whole lot of people, so pulling an extra 4 people from the store to work gas (which they are losing money on) makes it more challenging to run the store. Luckily their self checkouts are good, but they need to implement something like the samsclub app where you can shop and pay in the app and never go to a register.

Don’t you have to be a Costco member to even get gas there? I’d be surprised if gas is an actual loss for them

Wife saw somewhere today that they were suspending membership for gas and were going to keep the station open all night.

I disagree. I pay for a service I want a service.

Do they really use five people for gas? My Costco in NW Houston has one person that sits is a shed. I've seen them out for clean up and such but there is never more than one.

Went to Costco yesterday but check out was bad. Had a woman that had to start taking items back because it was over her limit. Then she they realized they only take Visa. they had total even more items off the bill. I'm not lying, after she was done her overflowing cart was done to about $5 worth of stuff. Made for an uncomfortable check out.

Maybe you missed the part about gas lines stretched around the building. Which is a good distance from the gas pumps. They need more people to expedite the flow of traffic and to help make sure people aren’t cutting in and causing gas rage. There have been at least 2 gas station shootings I have read about since the storm. Normally there is one employee staffing the gas area. Occasionally 2.

I’ve been through Harvey and Ike among others. Ike wasn’t so bad although we lost power for two weeks. Local gas station had gas so it was roughly a day to day thing with the generator. Harvey was mostly a water event but we flood free.
