Both are massively overrated (although if I had to pick one I'd take 5 guys). I dont understand why anyone is celebrating these coming in though. As a student, I don't want a bunch of cookie cutter chains sprouting up in the university area. I'd rather have locally owned businesses unique to the area.
Well it appears they DGAF about the opinions of the ones who hate those places. Bummer

Chipotle isn't that great. No queso and no refried beans, which are some of my favorite Mexican items.
The one thing that irritates me is no free chips. But the burritos are bigger and better than moes. But In other news I want a taco bueno.

Chipotle is good quality, but they're very limited on their menu items. Kind of the same thing for Five Guys. I just see them as places to go when you want quality fast food. I can make better at home, but when I don't feel like cooking, I might drop by there.

Well I told y'all many months ago they were going in that building and got bashed because all said building was too small. Pay attention. I don't make shite up.
And any vacant building coming back into commerce is better than a vacant building.
And...while I'm no chain restaurant whore I see tons of complaining about lack of mom and pop places however I don't see many mom and pops on this board taking out a second or third mortgage to open a restaurant. I suggest some haters put their money where their mouth is, hang out their shingle and start cooking. I'll come try the food.

I think Moe's burritos have a better overall taste. All the ingredients seem to blend in better together. Just my two cents.

I'm looking forward to them opening. I've never heard Chipotle, but I've never heard a bad word about their food (outside of South Park).
I really like Five Guys too.

You know, with all the multi millionaire ot ballers we have around here you would think this would happen.

Jambos done it a couple times and he gets my business.
And everyone talking about mom and pop should drop in his Frankie's Dawg House and support the local establishment.
Gugich posts on here and his family owns Dempseys and I support it as well and everyone here should too.
I also had a Thai chicken salad at the chain J. Alexander's for lunch today and it was pretty frikkin good.

Like the ones we used to have like Silver Moon and the like who were priced out of the area?
They used to have a Mexican place right there called Green Duck. When you ordered salsa or Guacamole it was made to order. Like it is in trendy Mexican places that charge $13 for a bowl of it.
But Green Duck charged $4.50. It was awesome authentic Mexican food, but they too were priced out.
I don't hate all chains, I just don't get excited about them. I have family in Metaire who are all excited about the chains there.
I would just rather see local places.

Not that I love Five Guys, but I've been wondering why they haven't opened up near campus. I figured North Gate would be perfect situation, especially on game days. Plus it will give Cane's some competition finally

When I am on campus and I want a burger I will probably never go to 5 Guy's. Roul's is directly across the street. Best burger I have had in my one year in BR.

YEA, the North Gates are the new Mecca for chain restaurants. The owners of these properties could not of would not think outside a box so tiny it is pitiful. In short order the only businesses that will home grown are going to be Rauls, the Chimes, North Gate tavern, CCK and the 20th second coming of Albasha.

They don't cluster the chains around university areas by accident, chains like the young demographic. They eat out a lot and chains make them feel like they are part of the nat'l culture (look California, we can eat the same crap as you cool guys).
Like Martini said, a space with a chain in it is a lot better than an empty space. Ying and yang. Good news/bad news.

Well why isn't there a CITWIT Cafe ?

Only people that own restaurants can complain about chains?
Posted on 5/2/12 at 9:35 am to Martini
You want to lend me a half million? I have dibs on a building.

One of the great mysteries of life is how people can knock 5 guys on the TD F&D Board. The place is incredible.

Northgate Tavern's burger & fries >>>>>>>>>>>>> 5 Guys
They also have a ridiculous breakfast burrito which I'd bet is better than Chipolte

Rent is too high in those areas for anything local to get established. The brand name and cheaper corporate structure allow those places to afford such high traffic locations. Local businesses that already exist and are a recognized brand can make it. It's just tough to crack an already overly saturated market in some cases.
