How much did it cost when it was all said and done?
I finished it back in '97 or '98. I was a broke college student, and did it as cheap as I could...usually only drank, but if I did eat, it was a $4.50 burger. All said and done, it was probably about a $350-$400 t-shirt.

Probably by the time you are 3/4 of the way done the computer system will frick up or the waitress will lose your card. I've had both done to me. I'd have probably done it twice by now. I had about 8 beers left and they "lost the card". The other time I had about 12 beers left and they "updated the system" so I lost all record in the computer deal they use.

I tried to start my 3rd time a couple times within the past year and the system was down every time.

I finished in '97 with two friends. Our agreement was we all had to drink the same beers and each beer had to be finished 100%. Some of them were tough from the first to the last sip, others were great. Imports and microbrews were not nearly as popular as they are today.
I am sure a lot has changed since then on the rules, but lunch at the Chimes, 3 times a week cost us a good deal of money. The only positive was priority seating. This was before they expanded to the current layout. We would walk in, pass the line of people out the door waiting for a table, say hi to the hostess, order a beer at the bar, and the hostess would come and get us and sit us at our waitresses table. Never more than a five minute wait.

give me some suggestions pretty please
A driver!
Did it 3 times in the late 80's. The third time I did it with two buddies in a single weekend. Went at opening on Friday morning, again on Saturday & Sunday. We finished about 10pm on that Sunday night. I don't think they let you do that anymore.....

Keep a printout with you and circle the ones you want to try. It's not hard at all. It took me about 6 months to finish it. The worst part was that the computer was broken a lot so you had to remember what to log next time you went. Ask your servers for suggestions and specials. They are cheaper in some nights I think. Be careful because a few of them are very big bottles and kinda expensive.

I'm not a fan of Guinness, either. But, some people swear by it. To each his own.

Yeah relient was there with me and everyone at our table thought it tasted like charcoal. I thought it was the only beer from Ireland they had, but apparently I was wrong

Next time, try the Warsteiner Dunkel. It's dark, but it's not thick. It doesn't have a bitter taste. I think you'll like it.
ETA: And try the Delerium Tremens.
