I'd say it's better than Willie Mae's in NOLA

It's too bad their sides suck. They have really mediocre red beans.

It’s the GOAT as well as batter-whipped and knuckle-sucking good.

I love their chicken/batter. So crunchy and dark

I agree their sides suck though. Nothing more disappointing than going somewhere with soul food and getting mustard/collard greens that are bland as hell.

It’s damn solid, but the best fried chicken is at Gus’s in Memphis, and it’s really not close.

The ol country store on 61 in Mississippi laughs at any other fried chicken on the planet.

Been to Mr. D’s joint more times than I can count. It’s good chicken, no doubt, but it’s not as good as Gus’s, at least not in my opinion.

Off topic: For months, I've noticed they were opening a Blue Store on Highland, between downtown and LSU. Anyone got any idea when/if that is going to happen? It seems like they're just stuck at the same point -- got the sign up, but interior is only partially done. I've heard the wings at Blue Store were great, but I rarely go to North Baton Rouge.

I will say that the sides at Lorman Country Store are better than Gus's.

I've never been to Gus's but I hope they have better sides than the Lorman Country Store. They're ok. But just doctored can goods. The fried chicken is probably the best I've ever had though. And the pork chops are money. I've heard D croon "Grandmama was a Cornbread cooking queeeennn" more times than I can count. Neat place. He charges too much for the food but it's good. The fried
Chicken is great.
