Nearly a decade ago,’as a young college student starting an internship in the city, I came to this board requesting recommendations on the favored inexpensive eateries in the Crescent City. Now, I’m back living in New Orleans again (this time in the CBD), and I would like to update that old list. I will link the old thread as soon as I find it.

What are your favorite relatively inexpensive restaurants in New Orleans?

What are your favorite stops to eat late night?

What are the best happy hour/mid week bars for just hanging out and meeting people?

Definitely do a brunch at Maypop while you're living down there

Maypop’s menu looks crazy interesting. Definitely a little pricier than I was thinking about when I started this thread, but goodness if that menu isn’t ambitious. I’m sure I’ll find an excuse to try it.

If in Mid-City area there's Mona's on Banks St., Juan's Flying Burrito on Carrollton near Canal, cross Canal on Carrollton and head toward City Park and there's several places to eat along the way that include Mexican, Chinese, Cajun and Italian cuisine.

On Canal near the cemeteries there's Beachcorner Bar and Grill that has great burgers, sides, and my favorite---grilled tuna on the burger bun.

Lots of restaurants on Esplanade within 5-6 blocks from the entrance to City Park with indoor and outdoor dining options.

Right down the street from my house is Mid-City Yacht Club that has a kitchen and puts out some good food with a full service bar. And if just looking for some cocktails there's Finn McCool's on Banks, Holy Ground on Canal and what was formerly Jeff Davis Pkwy., Mick's on Bienville near Bernadotte St.

I haven’t been yet but Paulie Gee’s just opened on Julia and does pizza by the slice.

LINK

Chill Out Cafe (Thai food) and Lebanons uptown are both byob and the food is pretty cheap.

Not sure if they’re doing it anymore but Dominica use to have a solid happy hour - half off pizza wine and beer

The owners of Liuzza's sold out a few months ago and I'm not sure if the new owners have opened back up or if they plan on keeping it like it was prior to the sale.

Haven't been to that part of town in a few months to check it out.

Liuzza's by the track is still open and under the same ownership.

Actual Nola I.e. non-Jefferson spots:

Cheap Lunch/dinner:
Bayou Hot Wings - best wings in the city, but it’s pickup only. They do have some tables out front.
Francesca’s - brought back “The Moon” sandwich
Blue Oak BBQ - great BBQ
Mona’s on Banks - great Mediterranean

Bars:
Beachcorner - great bar and solid food
Cooter Browns - great bar and solid food and raw oysters
Mid City Yacht Club
Wrong Iron
The Bulldog

I knew it was for sale, according to the website now they’re open Thursday through Sunday

we went right before all the shutdowns in NOLA in 2020 - it’s a shame if they close permanently bc both my mom and I grew up going there

But I guess there will be plenty more to add to the ‘ain’t dere no more’ list
