The secret to eating extremely cheap and tasty is to avoid processed food and go heavy on vegetable proteins.

1. Beans and rice are cheap and a complete high quality protein. You can season them up, add a meat, change the flavor.

2. Pasta and a sauce. Clam sauce made out of canned clams and a pound of linguine will feed a person for about 4 days. But you can make a sauce out of tomatoes or cheeses or both. Ramen noodles are basically pasta and a flavor.

3. Soups with small amounts of meat. Buy whole chickens or leg quarters.

We are not poor people, but I take a lot of pride in how well we eat and how cheaply we eat. Processed food is the enemy.

Falafel & Pita like the street vendors sell in most of Europe. Probably $10 worth of ingredients and you can get 7 to 10 meals out of it.

I love this shite so much--but I don't get to go fishing as much as I would like.

Jambalaya - I can do with stuff from around here.

Go down to the local river/stream/lake/whatever w/ a fishing pole and a few pieces of bread. Catch a bunch of brim and catfish...costs you nothing but your time and a few slices of bread.

Was going to add this. I use bacon drippings. I make it AM or PM. It was one of my Dad's favorites, so when I eat, it gives me that lovin'feelin'.

Family pack of salsburry steak tv dinner/meat only(6) 2.68 at dollar store
2 pack roman noodle .25

Put steaks/gravy in large skilled frozen
Add water and boil until defrosted
Add more water to thin gravy
Add both packs of noodles, noodles only
Still until they are soft.

Feeds 3 people for 3 dollars

Potato, Rice and Dark Meat Chicken are all cheap. Drinking your coffee at home and taking leftovers to work for lunch are big helps.

Remember you are only pissing in the wind if you are trying to save move in just one part of your life. 6 months worth of money saved by washing and re-using your zip lock bags will up and vanish like a fart in the wind with just one dumb move.

You don't even need a sauce. When I was poor I boiled dry pasta in water, drained and tossed it with oil and vinegar, salt and pepper. All 5 ingredients are dirt cheap and it's a lot healthier than Ramen noodles, which are full of salt.

Reb Beans and Rice wins. Gumbo can be a close second depending on the ingredients you use. The beauty of these dishes is you can make a ton for barely more effort than a single serving. Freeze the leftovers and you have instant incredible meals.

To be a little different, try a Shephard's Pie. All you need is some ground meat, mashed potatoes and cheese. You can make a whole pan for about ten bucks. Add in some mushrooms for a little more money and a lot more taste. Instant potatoes with instant milk can cut the cost down without hurting the overall taste too much. I make this a lot when the wife is out of town.

Potatoes are a good side item to make. Dice a whole 5 pound bag. Toss with italian spice seasoning, cajun spice, worscestershire and a little oil. Throw on the grill or the oven and you get a huge dish of sides for $5. Add in vegetables (shrooms, peppers, onions) and parmesan cheese to kick it up a bit.
