I’ve been several times and am in the camp that their steaks are some of the best in the city. Tonight I’m taking my dad for his belated birthday steak dinner tradition we started in 2019. However, I’m unsure if I’m feeling steak tonight and am inquiring if anyone has tried their lamb chops and/or duroc bbq pork chop before? TIA

Thanks for the insight on the pork chop. Love their steaks, but might give the pork chop a try. I’m a sucker for a good duroc pork chop and lamb chops but wanted first-hand experiences from folks if possible

For divey old school steak houses in New Orleans, Crescent City > Charlie's.

I appreciate both for what they are, though.

If it is traditional, if your father is counting on it, just suck it up & get a steak. 14-16oz NY Strip, cooked more rare than medium. Just do it!

We’ve been to Crescent City. It was ok, but to me, it was “ehh”. To each their own though and can appreciate why some really enjoy it.

For ambiance and feel I agree.

For actual food and drink Charlie's is better in my book.

i've never been to Charlie's, but I've always been tempted. I've just heard so many mixed reviews that I'm hesitant to go.

Everyone has their own opinion but Crescent City food has disappointed every time I've been over the last ten years. Charlies always crushes it for us.

Just an update: it was a delicious dinner with cherished father-son bonding! Dad ordered the 18oz ribeye and I decided to give the pork chops a try….outstanding taste and came out sizzling just like the steaks. We shared a side of the creamed spinach.

Family fav of ours. Mom and Dad went there on special occasions when in med school in the '50's and when they would take us whenever we visited NOLA. Went there maybe a year or so ago when visiting - wife is from NOLA and it was her first time there believe it or not. Very sentimental for me. Pretty much like I remembered it from the 70's and 80's.

Many memories from Charlie’s mid 80’s-90’s when in nola for med school and residency etc. Ruth’s was still on Broad when I first started school, but she was out of our budget. Charlie’s was closer and cheaper. 4-5 of us would go once every couple months. The steaks were wonderful.

Charlie’s serves the worst steak that I may have ever had in a restaurant. In my opinion, It’s just not good.

Having said that, it’s in my hood, and, I’m in the bar there about once a week. Atmosphere and drinks are great.

It’s funny, most of my “regular” spots have sub par food but I just enjoy the atmosphere

I have not been in many years. I had heard that the food had slipped. Was hoping that it had improved. Good memories nonetheless.

It’s not good. It’s surrounded in uptown by much better steaks.

Kosmo.....

Speaking of cheesesteaks, I would like to try Yinzers in the near future. Anyone in this thread tried them and can provide feedback if they are worth the hype?

And yes, I realize Charlie's is not the best steak in the city (all personal preference), but it's my dad's favorite place and that's where he wanted his steak from this year, so my old man got his Charlie's 18 oz ribeye
