They should move into the old Burger King

Or that old Chinese restaurant in the S turn across from the car wash

like Frank or whoever said on FB today, it will be hard to move to a different building and be the same type of the place. The building makes the place.

quote:

Brigtsen, chef/owner of the upscale Brigsten’s in the Riverbend, said he doesn’t have any immediate plans to move Charlie’s to another address. “That building is 64 years old,” he said. “We could do the exact same food in a different location, and it could be a great restaurant. But there’s a sense of place in some buildings, because people have memories there. And that’s not replaceable.”

I can add less. Only been once since the change. I just can't bring myself to go.

Tons of parking there.

The building was totally remodeled on the inside though. Nothing like the "old Charlie's"

I guarantee the building might be different, but if they opened close by, the clientele would remain the same. And if they found a bigger spot the restaurant would grow. There is a whole strip mall at the corner or Sauve and Jeff hwy just begging for a Charlie's

The Landlord is one Danna Doucet, he also owns/owned Colonial Country Club and had to get someone to front the club $8,000,000.00, reportedly, to remain open. I understand he owns Doucet Construction, and is a "heavy-hitter" in Harahan, as I hear tell. I could be mistaken.

I'm very sorry to see Charlie's go. As Frank said, the restaurant and food would be good anywhere, but there are less and less of these old-style neighborhood joints that are still this good, and in the same type of location. Frank could open this restaurant in any number of historical buildings, built for this purpose, in the city, and succeed.

But honestly, after a kick in the gut like this?
He did the old food, really well, with polish, and added a few new twists and such, like the shrimp calas, and the dirty boy to name two signature items.

I'm not clear on all the facts.
But I think, yes, he was. As I understand things, John Georges bailed him out at Colonial. But I haven't fact-checked the entire affair, I could be wrong.

Pretty sure Doucet was prez of CCC. Stockholders owned it and sold to tommy manzella

Doucet lives on Berkely Dr in Harahan. I'm not even sure how heavy of a hitter he is. Everyone knows heavy hitters are in imperial woods
