My neighbor is trying to convince me to buy his for $200. I’ve had charcoal grills my whole life, but recently got a pellet grill and I’m in love. But I still like the idea of being able to use charcoal if necessary.
I’m thinking about getting it, but worried I’ll never cook on it. If anyone feels like convincing me to buy or pass, please do so!

Friend of mine had one. Worked alright until it fell over and got dented. Never sealed right after that. He eventually tossed it.
Instead of paying $200, I'd spend a $100 or so on a new Weber. It doesn't have the insulating capabilities of an Acorn or a ceramic, but it's basically the same design and will do what you need.
You already have something for long cooks, though using the snake method, you can keep a Weber going for quite a while.

You can buy a new one for about $350. You use lump charcoal on this one.

I’ve had one for 6 years and love it. Smoking on it definitely has a learning curve, but it does the job. I like it for getting the grill super hot and quick, plus once you’re done you can seal it up and not waste all your charcoal. It heats up pretty quickly.

Cut my teeth on a secondary Acorn unit from a friend on here. Eventually went on to bigger and better because the ash bucket went to hell, but I wouldn't change a thing. It has its place, enjoy it!

I've had mine for 8 years now and it still works great. Worth the $300 I paid.

Chargriller is my favorite backyard grill. I’ve owned several. They were cheap enough to buy a new one every few years. Now, they don’t hold up well and what cost $170 3 years ago, now costs $270.
I’d be skeptical of the acorn not being worth the money, however, they are much cheaper than other ceramics, so I guess if you want a cheap one, there it is.

I've had two of them and believe everything they say about how well they cook.
If you want a kamado style cooker at a really cheap price, then that's the one to get but beware. If you don't keep it covered, it will RUST OUT in five minutes.
If however you just want a charcoal grill, then avoid the Akorn, do what the other guy said and get a Weber. With the way you can trick out a Weber, you can do alot with them.
Oh and another thing. I don't believe a used Akorn is worth 200 bucks.

Oh, one other thing.
Check Walmart and see how much their knock off Akorn costs.
It's essentially an Akorn in a different kind of frame/stand. You can tell it's made by Char Griller.
They may have them on clearance.

I had one for 7 or 8 years. Used it 1 to 2 times a week, it worked great grilling or smoking.
The rust got mine. I had it under a covered patio but not covered. It would get wet when it rained hard
I think I’m going to replace it with a Weber kettle

I've had one for over 10 years now. I've replaced several parts, but a lot of that is my own fault for not keeping it clean. I've done several 10 hour cooks on not much charcoal. It's not a BGE but also a fraction of the price.

If it's one of their ceramics, it's a great deal for $200. If it's not a ceramic, you might as well buy it new for $300-350
I have the non-ceramic one and it's a great budget kamado. I would do low temp smokes on it and get it 700F+ for steaks/pizzas. Since I have a stick burner now, I only use it for grilling

If you haven't yet, but some royal oak charcoal pellets in your pellet grill instead of wood. Honestly, I like the taste of charcoal to hardwood. I haven't put wood pellets in my pellet smoker since discovering the charcoal pellets. They also last longer stored than hardwood pellets.
