Jeebus. Four pages of replies in this thread and no one has bothered to ask:

1) How often do you plan to use the grill?

2) What type of meat/ food do you typically grill?

3) How much time do you usually devote to meal prep?

4) How many people are you planning on cooking for?

5) What is your budget?

6) How much space do you have? Is portability a concern?

No matter what you decide, save some money for a cover and some extra gadgets.

He was just asking charcoal or gas.

Not what specific grill to get.

That's a whole other much more complicated discussion that would require those questions.

I'll add to this discussion that I really dont find charcoal to be that much of a hassle for myself.

But that's because of the way I usually grill.

I dont just go out and grill
a few things at a time.

When I grill I usually do a lot at once, then eat on the leftovers for the weekend or even through part of the next week.

We have a family of 4.

So for example last Friday I grilled hamburgers and hot dogs first. We ate those and had enough left over for a few meals over the weekend. Then I went back out, added some more charcoal and did chicken breasts and porkchops. The pork chops were my lunch for this week at work. The chicken went into a vacuum seal bag with mango hab sauce that was used to make fajitas with tonight that we will eat on a couple of days.

Prepping the the grill really isn't that big of a deal to me cause I'm usually prepping the meat while it's getting hot anyway.

The biggest downside is the ashes. But mine has a large pull out tray that I just take and dump.

So overall to me its not that big of an issue.

I have two smokers (stick burner and drum), 3 charcoal grills, and a Weber Genesis One SE-330, and enjoy cooking on them all.

Definitely overkill, but acquired them at different times and have the space.

Just felt like the thread disentegrated into a pissing match (been guilty of that too) and trying to help OP.

I only have a large charcoal grill and electric smoker I use pellets in. I wouldnt mind having another grill though.

Sometimes it gets pretty crowded if I'm trying to do a bunch of veggies along with meat (to the point I either cant do it all, or have to cook some of it and then cook the rest)

I love my gas grill. I get indigestion so if I grill a steak later at night the charcoal will give me fits around 1 AM.

I have a primo and a Weber Genesis. I also have a big smoker I haven’t used in 4 years

God, you must be annoying as hell in real life.

Literally no one has ever said this.

Things cooked over charcoal provide a different experience when eating it vs things cooked over gas. It's not the fricking same.

You can keep saying this over and over and it still will not be true for the foods I mentioned.

Obviously it doesnt according to your precious quote. It doesnt provide the same aroma (which is part of flavor)

Congrats dumbass, you just proved yourself wrong.
You said taste. You are truly one of the dumbest individuals I have ever encountered. I can't believe this is free.

Dude, just stop. You have provided very little value to this thread except for some minor entertainment

After starting this fight, I have decided to get charcoal grill (weber).

i have a pellet smoker. I'm going to use that for smoking or for convenience.

Late to the party, I have a wood/charcoal vertical smoker, a weber gas grill, and a weber kettle, I love having all three.

If you want to mainly do veggies, burgers, steaks, etc, anything that needs less than an hour to cook, a gas grill is much easier to use and much less work.

If you want to get into longer cooks and smoking (chicken, port butt, brisket, ribs), get 1) a true wood-burner smoker, best food, more work, best way to really learn how to smoke, 2) a weber kettle that can do both or, 3) pellet smoker, most expensive but can be set and forget.

If you want a hybrid that do both, 1) weber kettle, 2) nice ceramic style or pellet smoker than can double as a higher temp grill.

You can do a whole lot with a Weber kettle. Start goobling accessories. There's all kinds of after market things you can get for it. Just make sure you get a 22 or 26 though.

You may want to get a 26 incher for volume.

Same exact 3 I have. The gas grill is just fast, and that makes it used the most. I also use the side burner on the genesis to heat the charcoal chimney fast. Each has a different purpose, and eventually you'll probably land with multiple, as well.

Charcoal is my preference. It adds a nice smoky flavor. However, gas is very easy to mess with.

Definitely get a 22 or 26, depending on your grilling needs. As mentioned, there are tons of accessories available for the weber kettle and online resources are endless. A good online weber resource is Virtual Weber Bullet, just navigate to the FORUM tab. Good luck and enjoy!
