Recently based on this board, I switched my crawfish seasoning cocktail to Chackbay 1-12oz., liquid crab boil 2-8oz bottles and salt 1 box.

We both agreed flavor was an improvement over other seasoning. heat was adequate but could use more salt for me. The wife thought the salt was just right. She's not a fan of high salt taste.

My question is has anyone tried 2-12oz bags of Chackbay for a sack of crawfish and if so how much liquid boil and salt would make a good cocktail.

Just add salt and taste your water. You want it slightly saltier than how you want your crawfish to taste.

The biggest variable is the size of your pot, which would affect the amount of water you are using.

In my 120qt pot, I use:

2 bags Chackbay
2 Cylinders of Salt
1 small cayenne
1 8oz liquid crab boil

various other things like citrus, onion, garlic etc

Why?

In an 80 qt its half way full

100 qt not quite half way full

120 qt 1/3 of the way full

Because the volume of water directly impacts the amount of seasoning needed...

Because that isn't the way most people do it. I agree with you that does make sense, but most people fill their pots to a certain level no matter the size.

I understand, but it only takes roughly 40 qts of water to boil a sack of crawfish

whether you have an 80 qt pot or 120 qt pot it doesnt matter for one sack. Its based on water volume, not pot size

I don't want to speak for Fun Bunch, but I expect the seasoning mix he quoted is for two sacks going into the 120 qt pot for a first run boil...just a hunch since I also have a pot that size.

You're being obtuse just to argue here.

Yeah, it's a no brainier that if you put the same amount of water in no matter the size of the pot, you will use the same amount of seasoning.

If you're using a bigger pot and doing 1.5 or 2 sacks at a time, you'll need more water and more seasoning.

His point was very clear. When people talk in terms of pot size, they tend to mean that pot with the water filled halfway because that's how most do it no matter what the size of the pot.

And I am just pointing out how that makes no sense, you are just wasting seasoning

You dont need to fill the pot half way up

If we're talking about doing 1 sack, then yes. I'm not saying it isn't a waste of water or seasoning. I do less than halfway in my 100 qt if I'm doing 1 sack.

You can do more than one sack at a time though. 2 sacks in a 160 qt pot will be just the same as 1 sack in an 80 qt. You'll fill it halfway.

Agreed with all above

I just see alot of people always say on this board for recipes "fill your pot halfway". And from what I have seen in person is that is what most people do for 1 sack no matter pot size. Just somewhat irks me
