It was good but not worth $80.

I agree. It is just another Mega Purple CA red.

I love it if I am in the mood for that big bold California style of Cabernet.

I agree . Had a Frei Brothers Sonoma Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon that was close to being as good at a 1/3 of the price

What do you mean by this? Serious question.
I found it to be very fruit forward but not much in the way of tannins. Not particularly aromatic either.
I could find 100s of better ones for much less money.

By that I meant the rich, dense , fruit forward California style as compared to the earthier old world wines which I actually prefer most of the time. But I tend to like wines of many different styles as long as they are of high quality.

It is a very good wine, but there are MANY better wines at the same (and lower) price point. Penfolds Bin 389 and 407 and much better wines for $10 less.
That said, I have a few bottles of Caymus in the rack and enjoy drinking it.

Now, Austin Hope is overrated

You probably spit your samples in to the bucket at tastings

It is that.

That Frei Brothers is good stuff for the price. I’ve had it a few times and I really enjoy it.

I’ve enjoyed Austin Hope more than I enjoyed Caymus for 30 dollars less too.

Agree.
And Treana is even better on a $ for $ basis.

Shots fricking fired
I agree that it’s vastly overrated, though.

Cough syrup that people with no knowledge of wine get at steakhouses because they’ve likely heard of it and is ubiquitous on menus. Garbage.

I don't know for sure, but most of the CA cabs do taste the same these days.

It’s been a working theory of my wife’s for a while that Caymus uses Mega Purple. It amused her when I told her about this thread

I agree. It’s the women who brag and post pics when they order a $180 bottle at a restaurant.
Would it be considered the Blantons of wine ?

My wife likes it. If she likes it she drinks it. If she drinks it she gets drunk. I she gets drunk I get sexy time. It’s worth $80 for me. I miss the old college days when a $4 bottle of Boones Farms had the same outcome.
