The food is on par with cafeteria food. If they have a pizza shop, that is the exception. The carnival elation had a freaking awesome basil margarita pizza. I ate them every day.

Try the Basil Drop in the Alchemy Bar.

Pleasantly surprised.

Get a Guys burger they are actually pretty good. Everything I ate in the MDR was good with the exception of the shrimp, definitely imported, not much flavor and a little chewy. Didn't care very much for the Blue Iguana Cantinas food. You can eat breakfast on the Lido deck but when we have seas days we eat in the MDR, breakfast is better and cooked to order. If you do eat on the Lido the stations that prepare omelets will cook your eggs fresh any way you want them.

In the Sky-box Bar there's a drink called a Grand Slam, they are good and strong.
In the Punchliner the Punchliner Drink is really good.

I always drink a Ginger Ale for breakfast and dinner, helps settle your stomach.

You'll have fun and eat okay, the food isn't world class but its better than olive garden. These ships take on 50-100 18 wheeler loads of groceries a week, they not doing farm to table. Enjoy it for what it is, a break from work and time with your family.

I've only been on one cruise, but I thought the room service pastrami sandwiches were pretty good. I probably had like 10 of them in one week.

They have some very good drinks in the Alchemy Bar.

As far as food goes, it's decent. Be sure to go to the dining room each night. I like the pizzas and sandwiches that are made to-order.

According to Cruise Critic, the Triumph doesn't have the Chef's table or other specialty restaurants. CC rated the food 4 out of 5 stars.

Triumph at time of this article had:

London and Paris Main Dining Rooms (decks 3 and 4, aft and forward): Carnival's main dining room is actually broken into two restaurants, London at the front of the ship and Paris at the back. Paris has assigned dining at 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on decks 3 and 4, while London has set dining on Deck 4. The lower part of London restaurant is open for Your Time Dining.

Sea-day brunch is an indulgent affair. Dishes include French toast, steak and eggs, mac and cheese, salmon and pasta choices. There's also a Bloody Mary bar with a lengthy list of garnishes.

For dinner, the menu is presented in two sections, "daily specials" and "available anytime." Appetizers for the former might include spinach and artichoke dip, beef and barley soup and escargots, while entrees range from lasagna Bolognese to pan-seared fillet of tilapia and braised brisket. Items available anytime include shrimp cocktail, vegetable spring rolls, broiled salmon, grilled flat iron steak, chicken breast and Southern fried chicken.

Also available anytime are surf and turf items, such as broiled Maine lobster tail, filet mignon and New York strip steak. These dishes carry a $20 surcharge. (For lobster-lovers, a Maine lobster tail shows up on the daily menu on Elegant Night.)

Taste Bar (Deck 5): This small food cart near the Casino serves complimentary appetizers in the evening, open sea days from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Guy's Burger Joint (Deck 9): It's hard to resist the fat and tasty burgers served at Guy Fieri's namesake grill -- so why would you? We love the elaborate toppings bar. Open noon to 6 p.m., it's well worth the lines.

BlueIguana Cantina (Deck 9): You might already know that you can get outstanding tacos and burritos at this Lido favorite at lunchtime (noon to 2:30 p.m.). But did you know that it's also open for breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.? The arepas and burritos are delicious.

Comfort Kitchen (Deck 9): The bulk of Triumph's buffet line is enclosed in an atrium labeled South Beach. In the mornings, you can get eggs in a variety of styles, as well as sausage, bacon, grits, cereal, pastries, bagels and more. Lines can get long at peak hours. Breakfast runs from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Lunch brings a pair of carving stations, as well as hot entrees that include fried seafood. There's also a dessert station with an array of sweets; the cake pops are particularly yummy.

At night, the Lido offers a salad bar, meats and cheeses, pasta and hot dishes like pot roast, fried shrimp and jerk pork. The carvery station remains, along with the dessert station. It's open from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Chopsticks (Deck 9): In the mornings, this counter serves as an omelet station. At lunchtime, go there for a rotating selection of Asian dishes, such as shrimp fried rice, beef stir-fry and General Tso's Chicken. It's open noon to 3:30 p.m.

Carnival Deli (Deck 9): Made-to-order turkey wraps, pastrami sandwiches, grilled ham and cheese, and other deli favorites are served at this counter, open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Off the Grill (Deck 9): Located near the aft pool, this station dishes up omelets and breakfast items in the morning and burgers and hot dogs late into the night. It's open until 1 a.m.

Pizza Pirate (Deck 9): Located near the aft pool, this pizza station gets points for keeping the slices hot and crispy. Another bonus: It's open 24 hours.

Swirls (Deck 9): Several stations labeled Swirls are on the Lido Deck, offering soft-serve ice cream and frozen yogurt in cones or plastic dishes, available anytime.

Room Service: On our sailing, all room service items were complimentary. Choices included a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, salads and desserts, as well as Continental breakfast.

Fee Dining

Carnival Triumph hasn't jumped on the specialty restaurant bandwagon, so unless you're craving a high-end gourmet experience, most of the food onboard is included.

Here's what isn't:
Cafe Vienna
Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast
Chef's Table

https://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/review.cfm?ShipID=148&pgtype=dining

According to Carnival's website they have added the Chef's table, Seafood Shack and Green Eggs and Ham.
https://www.carnival.com/cruise-food/?shipCode=TI

I did a cruise on Conquest when it was in Galveston. They had a hidden away fish and chips place that was not mentioned anywhere on Carnival's website. The only way people knew about it was through the message boards. It was supposed to be really good with a good atmosphere since the majority didn't know it existed. It was only open a few hours a day and I think the times varied. I don't remember if we ate there or not.

There were some people from Wisconsin on our floor that raved about the room-service BLT's. I wanted to try one but was never the least bit hungry during the little time spent in the room.

The thing I found interesting about cruising - the people who seem to enjoy it the most are people who are not close to the ports. I talked to people at work (Houston) before my cruise and very, very few had been and the ones who hadn't didn't ever want to go.

The people who love cruising are from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, etc. They not only have to pay for the cruise but also airfare (travel) to and from the ship. A large portion of info on cruise message boards is about travel to and from and what is allowed.

Margarita's are double pours. Alchemy Bar rocks but the drinks are like $11. Each night at dinner there's one special dessert. People love the Warn Chocolate Melting Cake that they have every night. If you're not up to eating that ton of chocolate, get the Banana Split off of the kids menu. The Waiter's will just smile because most people don't know about it.

|I went on my 1st Carnival cruise 2 years ago, never again. My best suggestion on the food is to find something you like and stick with it. Hamburgers, pizza, whatever, don't experiment, just stick with it.

The rumor that Carnival cruises are the "Wal-Mart of the Sea" is pretty accurate. Next time I prefer to cruise with a better class of people than me.

I found myself eating a lot of the pizza. Was pretty good, from what I remember.

Ah, I knew the OT influence would show up for this thread on the F&D board. My cruise did have similar people that you will see in my neighborhood Walmart. I went during the summer and there were a lot of good looking scantily clad women on board the whole trip. I guess I just live in a pretty darn good neighborhood.

Even if your cruise was like your Walmart why would you let that affect you. If it does you should probably stay home and not go shopping or on vacations.

That's your BEST suggestion? That is a pretty stupid thing to say. You have paid for tons of food and it is available to you around the clock. But yeah, if the first thing you eat is pizza and you like it just eat pizza for the rest of your trip. Jesus

The kids will eat the pizza non stop. They have panini sandwiches of all kids, a buffet with many choices, and the main dining room will have something they will eat morning, noon, or night. The kids will enjoy it and never go hungry.

Between this and the burger joint, I probably gained 5 lbs eating just these two things.
