I will be passing through Little Rock next week and was wondering what type of culinary scene was up there. What are some of the better restaurants in Little Rock and are there any local cuisines unique to the area. TIA

When I stay downtown on business, I enjoy Sonny Williams' Steak Room. Always a good experience.

There is a pie place a little less than an hour's drive outside of LR but worth the drive:

I don't know about fine dining, but Three Fold has some killer dumplings and noodles. Irianas has really good subs and pizza. The Root Cafe is a hippy farm to table place that has fresh local food and they make a great burger. Whole hog for bbq, damgoode pies and US pizza company for pizza.

What meal(s) will you be eating? Are you staying overnight? If so, what part of town?

Eta; here's a few past suggestions for dinner

If you're ever driving between Little Rock and Memphis there is Delta Q in Forrest City. Great Q and they have free homade pork skins for appetizer.

I've eaten at The Flying Fish a couple of times and really enjoyed it. Just a cool Delta Style fried seafood joint. Think there's one in Memphis too. If you're into beer, go hit Lost Forty. They brew really good beer and the food in the brew pub is delicious.

A local told me about a lunch fried chicken special at Capital Bar and Grill. I think it was Wednesday.

It was very good.

I used to love vino's. It's a dive. Sausage and pepperoni calzone

Vino's had a pretty good beer selection too along with solid pizza.
I second the Lost Forty recommendation. And we had a good dinner at the Heights Taco & Tamale Co.

My favorite is Loca Luna. It's just a 5 minute drive from downtown. They usually have a nice 32 oz. tomahawk ribeye special, good Osso Bucco, lobster bisque, rainbow trout, great wood-fired pizza, etc. Every time I'm in Little Rock we eat there. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but they have great food. Much better than what most of the Rivermarket area restaurants have.

Great menu with a lot of variety, but the specials are usually my favorites.

My 3 favorite places to eat there are all basically right by each other. Brave New Restaurant, Loca Luna, and the Faded Rose. I'm guessing Brave New Restaurant probably gets the highest ratings on Trip Advisor and Yelp but all three I listed are good.

I once lived in L.R. for a decade and there are some decent places to eat there. US Pizza is good. Sonny Williams Steakhouse down by the River Market is good. Doe's Is good if you want a steak or tamale but they have one of those in Baton Rouge. Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is excellent and Sims BBQ is well known across the country.

Some good recs in this thread.

Lost40 is good for beer and food. Rebel Kettle is also nearby, which does more wild ales, sours, and saisons and such. It's worth stopping in as well (if you're into beer).

Loca Luna is certainly good. I like Heights Taco and Tamale as well. Big Orange is a good gourmet burger (same restaurant group as Heights and Lost40). There's a Gus's fried chicken as well if you're into that. The Capital Bar and Grill is a nice place to hang out with good food and atmosphere.

Someone else mentioned you might be coming from Memphis. If so, you might detour to Craig's BBQ in Duvall's Bluff. It's pretty famous and deservedly so.

If you're actually looking for interesting local dive with local fare... check out Lassis Inn where their specialty is... Buffalo Ribs (as in Buffalo Drum... the fish). Here's a video to give you a feel for Lassis Inn: LINK
