Mr Ed's
New Orleans Hamburger
Deanie's
Acme
Camellia Grill
Come in under budget at one of those places, then go to Cafe Du Monde for dessert. Yeah it's a bit cliche, but you won't have bad food and you keep your sanity
If you're looking for something in the casual fine dining class, I'd go to Muriel's or Red Fish Grill

My wife and I usually enjoy going to Royal House if we are looking for a casual spot in the quarter. Definitely within walking distance from the Sonesta.
I almighty at suggested Royal House. I've never been there but have friends who give it kudos for certain dishes.
As an aside, I wouldn't stroll my child on Boubon St at all and probably not many other places n the FQ right now. I'd spring for the cash and eat at R'evolution. Food is great.

Royal House on Royal and St. Louis is right around the block from the Royal Sonesta.
Also try Johnny's PoBoys (Best poboy in the Quarter) on St. Louis. About 2 to 3 blocks from Royal Sonesta.
Mona Lisa Pizza on Royal is kid friendly.
Central Grocery on Decatur for a muffaletta and a Barg's Root Beer.
Café Pontabla on St. Peters and Chartres. (This would be my call for a young family, looking for a fun place to have a good meal at 100 bucks or less.)
Port of Call Hamburgers on Esplanade.
If you're looking for breakfast, Stanley is on St Ann and Chartres in Jackson Square.

I have found Domenica to be the best place to go with kids in the quarterish area. It is loud and there are always numerous kids in there. Lots of different things for kids to eat and better food than the places in the quarter.

No worse than ever. Bourbon is always trashy and the foot between canal and iberville is dicey at night, but not as bad during the day. Royal, Charters, Decatur are fine. There are gutter punks begging on Decatur, but you can just ignore them. I wouldn't go strolling down dauphine late at night alone, but there is no reason to do that.

I've always had good food there.
Degas I respect your opinion on food but I personally think Redfish is terrible. Never gotten a decent meal there. Only went when I had to.
Not sure if mentioned but Muriel's or Stanley's across the street are good options.

I always ask this, but why is the FQ a requirement? This is a small city that's easy to get around and there much better options outside the FQ
much easier to go somewhere walking distance with kids...
