I received the Antoine's Cookbook as a wedding present many years ago and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Almost forgot about that. That's one of the books that I've been wanting to add to my collection.

I can't decide between that or the french laundry book though

Nada, OG.You can have those. It's fried catfish and fried shrimp with bacon night following the cocktail hours. You'll be asleep when dinner is served. I'll be asleep when you're having your breakfast of champions.

I must have missed that.

To the OP: Agree on Besh's cookbook. It's also a "coffee table" type book if that matters.

Paul Prudhomme's Louisiana Kitchen is another good one. I've made a lot of those recipes. He gives details on them and they look longer than they are. The book came out before his Magic Seasonings line came out, so you could do a combo gift with the cookbook and those seasonings.

My personal all time favorite to give newlyweds is the old Nola Junior League cookbook called The Plantation Cookbook. Everything in it is easy and really doesn't need adjustment. It's not a pricy book, but it's a good one.

Plenty of good ones. Depends on if you want one they will probably use or really nice coffee table book. John Folses, John Beshs are along those lines. Leah Chase has two, Paul Prudhomme has a good one, a couple of Emerils are good, Brennan's.

And BR Junior Leagues River Road Recipes 1 and 2 are good. Lafayette, New Orleans Junior Leagues have good ones.

You got a thing about "pea" like Burt Reynold's does? That guy wants to mark at every restaurant he goes to.

For a wedding gift I'm sure you want to give a new copy and I don't know if theses as still in print or not, but here's some suggestions:

The New Orleans Cookbook by Rema & Richard Collin
Commander's Kitchen
The Picayune Creole Cookbook
Cooking Up a Storm
My New Orleans - Besh
From Woodstoves to Microwaves (Entergy New Orleans Cookbook)

What have you made? Crawfish cardinale, étouffée are two if my favorites. I use cardinale as a party food served on a chafer with toasted French bread. Otherwise, I load it in puff pastry shells. Brownies with caramel icing are great. The icing is addictive.

Besh.

It is the perfect cookbook. Pictures for every dish and the story behind the food, ingredients, how the dishes are made, etc. It is a cultural tour de force. I have just read the book when I was missing home.

One day, I will move back. But, until then, I will cook from Besh's book.
