French Press. Hands down the best so far.

Worst burger I have had in Lafayette. I think I posted about it here before.

pete's is my favorite
I used to like Pete's but last time I went which was over a year ago it was nasty. Used to live right behind there and would eat there at least once a month and really liked the burgers.

Jenny, regardless of a different menu, the burgers seem to be the same at either?

Unless things have changed, the Johnston st location doesn't have that previously frozen taste that another poster mentioned

Blows. I tried the Mile High burger and the Peanut Butter Bacon burger. Both were meh. Plus, for me, any place that doesn't ask temperature for my burger pretty much gets filed away into the shitter. I've been in Laf. since December. I enjoy the filet burger from burgersmith. Ground Pat'i on Kaliste is OK. Fat Pat's is meh. I haven't been to Twins or Judice Inn yet, but plan on it before I move back to BR next year

I need to try French Press.

It was overcooked to start. Second, it was just meat and cheese on a hard dry bun. No condiments or anything.

Technically its in Broussard, but Hook and Boil has great hamburgers. Their burger with an egg is one of the best I've had.
Anyone here tried Grub Burger?

They cook to order. Should have sent it back. Why did you order a plain burger? They have several things to choose from Chimichurri to Bleu Cheese. Brioche bun? Not sure what happened but it's far from the worst. May not be the best but you can't say it's in the same league with 5 guys, burgersmith, fat pat's and pete's.
Not in Lafayette but Veronica's in Carencro is good.

Grub is very good. Lots of options, including a salmon burger. Trying to stay on the healthy side, I tell them to hold the bun, skip the fries and sub in a side salad that is actually very good.
Been there several times, and the people are liking it.

Social, Grub and French Press are all solid

Grub is decent but messy. Their onion rings are good but I am not a fan of their spicy ketchup.

Had the grass fed burger at Acme that was really good. Went back a few weeks later and they were closed down.
First trip to burgersmith was good, second trip not so much. Haven't been back.
Hub City Diner has a decent burger.
Grub is next up.

My favorites are Judice Inn and Dwyer's. Judice has been discussed....Dwyer's has a solid "diner-style" burger. Cooked on a flat top. Sufficiently crusty and greasy. Toasted bun. With cheese of course. The double meat burger gives you the correct meat-to-bun ratio.

Haven't been back to Laffy since I lived there in the 70s and 80s, but I always like Ground Pat'i. Still there I think.
Was/is it a local or national chain?

Judice Innn is a good burger. Need to order 2 just to get full, but they are relatively cheap. Burgersmith is just meh to me.
Went to Grub for the first time this past Wednesday for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. Had the Thai Peanut burger which was outstanding. Didn't care for the onion rings...too much batter for me.
Nothing beats Company Burger in Nola, though.

My observations:
Judice is good if you like a simple ol' fashioned burger and can look past all the shite splattered on the walls, menus, and ceiling. They truly don't give a rat's arse about cleanliness, including their sorry excuse for a rest room.
Southside and Twins? Guilty as charged. Over cooked and over spiced dry meatloaf on a bun. I asked if they could cook a burger medium at most and they said nope, it's got to be well done, and we all know what well done beef tastes like. I won't be back.
Fat Pats. I tried both locations upon recommendation and both were grossly overcooked, including the fries.
Burgersmith: I had a friend pick up lunch from there and I was starving. One thing about being extraordinarily hungry is that food usually tastes exponentially better. This wasn't the case.
Ground Pat'i: Johnston location seems to have gone downhill while the other location puts out a tasty burger, AND you can order it to the temp you like.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Legends yet. They have some pretty tasty burgers right up until 2am, even if they're generally slightly overcooked.
Martini has mentioned his favorite in Lafayette...some bar or pool hall that allows smoking, which is why I've never chosen to eat there. I can't recall the name of the venue.
Other than that, a burger isn't something I generally order out. For a burger, beer, tax and tip, I usually feel ripped off for $20+. Not implying that BR is a better burger city, but I'll take my Mason's any day. I'm still searching Lafayette for that foodgasm burger.
