BR restaurants without a wait

Gonna be there tomorrow (Saturday) for a dance thing. No idea really what time we'll be done so I don't want to make any reservations. I lived in BR for several years but moved away about 10 years ago so I'm not so up to date on the new places. I know the really popular places will be packed on a Saturday night, but what places do you recommend that fly under the radar? Is Texas de Brazil usually packed on the weekends?

I go there every other night back home. I need something a little different.

Staying downtown but will have a car so can drive anywhere.
Wife went to Capital City Grill tonight and said it was really good.

I switch it up with Olive Garden and Red Lobster. What's not to like?

Downtown? Go to Blend. The chef is good, and they have a small plates menu with a lot of good things. It's a wine bar with good cocktails as well, so you won't encounter a wait like a traditional restaurant. Atmosphere is nice too.
Eta: wait do you mean a dance thing for a kid? Nevermind.

Not really. We love the greek/Lebanese places in town. I'd rather something with a little more substance than burgers, though I'm sure Burgersmith has a good one.
What are some good Mexican places? Ninfas was the best place when I lived there but I see it doesn't get any love on here nowadays. What time do the crowds at Texas de Brazil die down?

Yeah, but we could probably pawn her off on one of the other dance moms.

if you are staying downtown forget driving out
Nothing in BR is worth driving out for compared to what you can get there
Go to Little Vilage or Stroubes if you want something nice
If you want a good vibe and view go to Tsunami
Its not the best sushi place but its good enough
Check out Bald Eagle pub for a hole in the wall bar

Any place worth a hoot will have a wait on Saturday night of 15-30 minutes, so just accept it. You've got a Mardi Gras parade going on downtown and a big LSU basketball game so that may add to the mix

I can handle that. Just not wanting an hour wait.

Ninfa's is now Tio Javi's, but I get the feeling the menu didn't change. They may be crowded.
Carlos' is a good old Tex-Mex joint under the radar. It's about 15 minutes from downtown, a straight shot down Florida.
Albasha's is the best Lebanese place in town. I've never waited for a table there.
