Ok, so I'm bringing my Yankee wife home to RA for the first time to see where I grew up next week. 2 days. 1st day will be lunch at canes, and dinner at Copelands. I have a few questions for the 2nd day.

Is New Orleans Poboys still open on Florida in Denham, and if not, I need a good poboy shop in denham or BR, pref one with crawfish poboys.

I need a place for dinner also, something nice but not too dressy, and really speaks to Louisiana cuisine.

Last but not least, Copelands of NO, or Copelands cheesecake? This is for dinner.

I assume you are halfway interested in good food since you are posting here. Why are you going to Canes and Copelands for your La food experiences?

Dude, y'all will be missing out big time. You can get that garbage anywhere in the country.

Yes, but I don't see why you will be going here. They've got good food and are really nice people, but if I were coming back into town from acorss country I'd be going somewhere a little better than this. Either way

I chose those 2 because they were childhood favorites.

By all means, tell me where would you go in this situation?

For a casual La dinner, go to Parrain's.

Parrain's is pretty legit IMO.

Smartest thing I've ever heard from a NLA'er.

Go to Stroube's one night for dinner. Corner of North Blvd. and 3rd St. downtown.

Are you looking for nicer places or really casual places?

Hit the nail on the head. Brew Bacher's would be much better than New Orleans Po Boys. Also a Rotolo's in Denham now. I don't believe they have franchised out up north yet. If I were you though, I'd drive to Baton Rouge. The Denham food selection just isn't great.

If you're in Denham, there's a La Carreta on Highpoint between Range & Florida. There's a Longhorn Steakhouse, but I've never been.

The Mediterranean joint called Cafe Phonecia is behind the Hooters across from the Bass Pro Shops right off the Interstate, and their Chicken Shwarma is way more legit than Albasha's. Don't kill the messenger.

There's also a Rotolo's at the corner of Highway 16/Range & Arnold Road.

But, if you REALLY want a taste of Livingston (well, okay, maybe St. Helena & Tangipahoa, too), then you need to take him to the Hi-Ho BBQ over on Range Avenue just before Lockhart in Denham.

Two BBQ Pulled-Pork sammiches w/cheese. I got fatter just thinking about them as I typed this.

Get extra napkins.

Brew Bachers for poboys it is then, where generally are they located?

And for dinner I was thinking something just a little dressy, olive garden or red lobster dress. But a new Orleans / Louisiana cuisine.

Thanks for some good answers :)

Head downtown to stroube's. Plenty of watering holes around there to have cocktails before or after, or you could just have drinks at their bar.

Never eaten in Indiana, so maybe she may be impressed with Canes and Copelands, but if it were me, I'd lie through my teeth and tell her I grew up in New Orleans and bring her to a serious restaurant for grown ups that will make her love you forever.

If you're determined to stay here, then I'd go with Stoubes, Byronz, Brandt's, Maison Lacour, or La Creole and call it a day. I'd hate to think that your lady's impression of Louisiana consists of Canes and Copelands. Come on man, do us all a solid here.

yyeaahh

I gotta agree here.
Although a friend of mine that lives in Dallas came down to visit once and the first place I took her was Cane's She heard me and my roommate ranting about how addictive and delicious Cane's sauce is and wanted to try it. But I cooked a delicious rice and gravy that night. Then took her to the Steamboat (was in Ville Platte at the time.. not much other choices ) for dinner the next day. Can't remember the rest.
