I know this topic has been done to death, but I’m looking to give a bottle of bourbon to a friend for his birthday. I usually try to give Blanton’s, but I can’t find it in my area. What’s the next best bourbon, preferably under $75.

I’m mostly a scotch drinker, so I’m not as in tune to the good bourbons. I know my friend likes highland and Speyside scotch, if that helps with recs

I've been digging the Old Forrester Prohibition Style lately. It's ~$65.00. The Bottled in Bond is good too and a little cheaper...

This was the worst thing I tasted in a recent whiskey class.

Readily available at decent bourbon stores:
Woodford Double Oaked about $55
Blade and Bow about $45
Mckenna 10 $30-40
Bookers $70 (harder to find)

I see a lot of people drinking Weller in the whiskey thread. Can anyone give me some info on that?

Weller is very tough to find these days unless it's the SR which is likey to be overpriced.

There are a TON of great bottles for under $75...any further info as to what your friend prefers?

He drinks Woodford Reserve and Jefferson’s. Favorite scotch is Glenlivet 18

He does not really like rye

Just buys when he runs out. He’s got a bottle of Jefferson at sea, a little bit of woodford, and a bottle of Bunnahabhain right now

According to his gf

It does actually. That's my favorite as well.

A few to try
Wolcott (about $30)
Chestnut Farms
Woodford double oak
Basil Hayden

Then I'll second woodford double oaked ...really nice elevation of original woodford.

Maybe also a jefferson aged at sea if you can find it. It's what it sounds like...Jefferson barrels that aged while on a ship crossing the equator X number of times....may be a touch over your budget but not by a ton.

The makers mark 2021 limited release is outstanding for about $10 under if you can find it in your area.

I think he would also enjoy four roses single barrel which should come in around $50-60. Great stuff and a really elegant bottle that makes for a cool gift

Old Forester 1920 or Four Roses Single Barrel. The Four Roses is a little cheaper, but those are two of my favorite drinkers that you can find easy.

LSUA put one on last year. Taught by one of only two whiskey sommeliers in the state.
