I will be in Boston May 29-June 3rd with my daughter and her friend. Are there any don't miss food stops we have to make? They are somewhat picky eaters, but I don't know of a reason anytime soon or ever again to be there so we must experience it as much as possible. They are graduating seniors so we are not talking small children, but not drinking age either. We may also have a few hours in the afternoon to fill, is there anything else worth seeing while there?

Walk the Freedom trail (that will take all day). You can grab lunch at Faneiul Hall.

Rhinos Place

If you can get there on a weekday(not Friday)between 2:30 and 4, you won't have to wait in a long line.

Lobster roll
Eventide over by Fenway is what Abita recommends in the city, original in Portland Maine

I've only had them on Cape and in coastal Maine

Thank everyone, all of the recommendations look wonderful. Most certainly not going to have time to visit all of them. Maybe there will be a need to go back.

Ok, just got back into town after a LONG drive.

Very quickly, let me just ask: what part of the city will you be staying in, and when you say the kids are picky, what will they eat?

Off the top of my head, a lobster roll at Neptune is a good idea, and Eataly would also be a good spot to bring them.

Someone linked my guide from the Travel Board, that's full of good stuff. But if you have specific questions I'm happy to do my best to help.

Talked with my daughter this evening and we are trying to decide a game plan. We are staying near Foxborough, the reason we will be there is because of a lacrosse league playing at Gillette. On one hand, we would like to spend sometime in the North End and hit North Square Oyster and Mike Pastries and do take in the area. On the other hand, we are talking about just trying to find a nice Italian place for a celebration dinner for them. After this summer they are both headed out west for college so thinking maybe a nice dinner would be better. Right this second, this looks like what we are leaning towards. We are a month away, what would be a nice local Italian place to try to get reservations?

I may have misspoke about being picky too. They are just more likey to go do quirky things like be vegan for a month or two, stop eating all dairy or something similar. They are both open minded to different foods or at least giving it a try.

Anywhere in the North End will be good

but

Antico Forno. That’s personal preference.

And Modern over Mike’s Pastry. I’m calling it. I’m not from there, l just
live there.

Agreed, the “Nath End” is the place to go.

FWIW Irene’s in the French Quarter has better Italian food.

If they are open I suggest Portuguese cuisine. There are lots of great places in Cambridge and Sommerville.
Take the red line and exist at Central or stop before Harvard.

Abita mentioned eataly, and if you’ve never been (there are like 8 throughout the US), it’s definitely worth a visit. That said, it’s a chain and not unique to Boston. However, you can either do a full meal there, grab a quick snack or just have wine. The eataly concept is extremely cool, especially if anyone in the family is a foodie.

So if you're coming in from the Foxborough area, does that mean you're driving? I'm going to warn you, the North End is the worst part of the city to drive in and try to park. Narrow streets and almost all the parking is Resident Only. So I'd plan on finding a nearby garage and just paying to park.

If you're having one meal in the North End, I'd say it should be at Giacomo's. But please know that they do not take reservations and there's usually quite a wait to get in.

And Yeezy is right - Modern Pastry is better than Mike's. Mike's is the touristy option of the two. There's also Bova, which is a really local pastry shop.
