Having a decent size shrimp and crab boil Sunday. 5 dozen crabs, 35llbs shrimp in two separate pots. How much powder seasoning/liquid boil to use? It’s been a while since I boiled crabs. How long to boil/soak? Shrimp…I need a refresher as well. Thank you!

Crabs 7 minutes, soak 20-30,leave in the ice chest until ready to put in the pot, claws won’t fall off, throw shrimp in when boiling turn off at 3 minutes from putting in and put a frozen water jug in pot to stop the cooking process soak 20, at least that’s how I do it

that depends on pot size, if you do it together with crabs, etc. just make the water spicy for the taste.

also, shrimp and crabs together is a master level technique, not for the faint of heart.

i would opt for separate pots in your case.

and of all my years cooking shrimp, you cook by sight, not time. cook for a min then start stirring deep. when you bring one up and the shell is separated from the meat, cut the fire and ice. money every time. soke til desired spicyness.

I’m using separate pots. Boil shrimp for one minute while stirring? Then cut heat, throw ice in and soak?

Watch a stale cracker video on shrimp boiling. I tried it and its legit....no seasoning until after the 1 minute boil.

As posted, follow the stale cracker method for shrimp.

Boil the shrimp until the shell starts to separate from the body. Cut the heat. Get the temp down under 150. Soak that as long as you want.

Boil shrimp with just a punch of lemon. Once you see the shells start to separate, shut the fire off, throw a frozen gallon jug in and season the water. 35lbs of shrimp is a lot. Probably a whole canister of Cajunland and a 8-16 oz of liquid. I like the seasoning bags also with shrimp. But just season the water and taste it. Little salty, little spicy.

Crabs just season the water to your preferred taste. You never know how the crabs will taste. All depends on how full they are. But a tub of Cajunland should be good for 5 dozen. Add liquid and maybe some salt. Like previously states, just taste the water before it gets too hot.

I usually use Cajunland or Chackbay. Chackbay has more spice and less salt. Just depends on what is available when I go to the store. Stalecracker's boiling seasoning is not bad either.

Guy earlier said boil 7, soak 20-30m which is about right.

I also put my crabs in the water with the seasoning for about 15-20 minutes before cutting on the heat so they can breathe it in.

7 minute boil.
Soak for 20 and taste one. If they are chocked full, you can soak them for an hour and it will not matter.

Crabs, they pretty full right now.

1 jar of powder seasoning, I use Louisiana, 6 Oz of liquid boil, I use Cajunland and about 6 Oz of celery salt. Boil them till they float and soak them till they sink.

For 35 lbs of shrimp, same recipe as above. I would do them in 2 or 3 batches but soak them all together, 35 lbs is a lot to bring back to a boil quickly.
