Why? It may be old school vs modern but the food is very good. It seems to be a New Orleans icon.

It’s just ok. Def not an upscale place like the OP is looking for.

While it has some italian dishes, it is not an "italian restaurant" in the sense he is talking, imo

It is not upscale even in the slightest

I personally do not agree.

Understood, thank you. I didn’t think so. I’m weird with food though and prefer more standard fare than fancy or upscale. Suppose that’s why o thought of it.

Had dinner at Avo maybe a month ago, and I thought it was pretty tasty

You would consider the food at Mandina’s very good?

I enjoyed what I ate. Gulf fish almandine and I’ve had delicious soft shell crab. I’ve only been a few times and it’s always packed.

Gianna and Paladar have nicest atmosphere and best drinks. If you like Amaro or would like to try Gianna’s selection might be the best outside of NYC and Italy. Get the special Amaro menu. Avo used to be in our rotation for quality, but it hasn’t been as good lately. Atmosphere is not as nice for special occasion.

Osteria Lupo is fun with good drinks, but only 2 pasta dishes are good - mushroom and squid ink. The ravioli, gnocchi and apps are not good at all.

Not a fan of Tana. Some decent dishes, some not, but vibe is cheesy Miami and service not as professional.

Avo is fricking delicious. I never ordered lasagna at a restaurant until I went to Avo. That is my favorite dish anywhere.

Everything over there is great.

Gianna's lasagna gives Avo's a run for its money
They're both amazing but in different ways

I see that the rigatoni is back on menu at Avo - it’s the best green pasta dish in town - arugula pesto with spring peas. Great summer pasta dish.

Only been to Osteria Lupo once, and it was a fine meal. Atmosphere is not upscale, but more hip and loud. Pastas are great over there. I’ll go back, but Avo is my favorite Italian in the city currently. And the atmosphere is more relaxing there.
