Unique taste or presentation/appearance?

Get a Japanese whiskey.

I’m guessing the downvotes are from people who haven’t had a Japanese whiskey. They are ridiculously good and a very unique present to give.

I bought a few eagle rare 1.75s for gifts and people loved it. The bottle is ridiculously big.

I’d recommend angels envy rye. It’s definitely unique. It’s finished in rum barrels.

All seem like good recommendations.

Thanks

For unique, I’d go with this...

If it were my money (or my bottle), I’d probably be buying an EH Taylor Single Barrel ($70-ish)

^^This. I bought two this year for friends’ 50th birthday. Drinks very well and the presentation is great.

I got a bottle of this for 75 bucks. I really liked it. I think it's available at Total Wine and Liquor. It's a whiskey aged in stout barrels. The color and flavor are stunning. Rogue grows all the ingredients and brewed the stout that previously used the barrels it is aged in. Very unique.

That's a 6 oz glass and there is an ice cube in it, so don't freak out about the size of the pour...

A Bookers with the box would present well and it's a damn good drink too. Sometimes hard to find though.

Not sure if intentional or not, but this was a terrible answer to my question

I'm not sure I'd get something non-traditional like this or the beer stout whiskey mentioned below. $80 is a lot of money for a bottle and if they don't like the 'twist', that's a big waste.

I'd be looking for something on the rarer side than something unique, if that makes sense, OP.

Rare is a relative term in the bourbon world there days. It just depends on where you live. In Louisiana buffalo trace and eagle rare are abundant but hard to find in Houston. The rare stuff is difficult to find these days unless you win a raffle. Stores know demand far exceeds supply and are charging 3-5x retail. There are plenty of very good but not necessarily rare bourbons in the $50-$75 price range.

Jefferson's Oceans. Barrelled and aged at Sea. Touches a port on every continent and hits every ocean. Kind of a cool story. Calandros had it for $80.
