For years I used Porche's from French Settlement for my gumbo. It had the most amazing pecan smoke flavor. It flooded and he is not reopening. JR's meat market down the road has some very good sausage but it doesn't quite pack the same smokey flavor I'm used to in my gumbo. Any recommendations in the Baton Rouge/Livingston/Ascension area?

I like Rabideaux's for gumbo and Veron's in Lutcher for jambalaya.

Rabideauxs for smoked and amongst store brands it's not close imo. They have a local guy around LC that is better but his is just small batches and only by word of mouth.

I forgot about them, it's been so long since I went down that way that. I'll have to try them this weekend.

In that area, you'll be hard-pressed to beat Junior's. I used to use Porches also, use Junior's now.

Teet's, Ville Platte, end thread.

Conducted a recent blind taste test using smoked sausages from a variety of top places in south Louisiana -- Daigle's in Welsh, Lejeune's in Eunice, Teets, Don's Country Store in Reserve, Veron's in Lutcher, Bergeron's in Port Allen, and one or two others. Teet's won, with Bergeron's (surprisingly) in close 2nd.
