Never had to plan anything like this but looking for a private, banquet room or something similar for about 30-40 people, kid friendly.

Most restaurants can handle that. Depends, as others have said, on price, sit down or buffet, alcohol?, etc.

Just off the top of my head:
Sullivans
Ruth’s
Fleming’s
Jubans
Ruffinos
K Street
Cocha
Tsunami
Beausoleui
Mansurs

Definitely sit down. Everyone is paying for themselves so budget is kinda whatever.

The former server in me hates you.

Budget still matters. Very few restaurants, at least if they are sane, are going to let you order off the normal menu with that large of a group. You will likely have to do a set menu that narrows your choices down to 2-3 items per app, salad, entree, dessert, etc. Set menus range in price depending on what you want to offer.

May want to rethink this one.

Also, when are you planning this for?

I hope you don't need it this month. You will be very politely laughed at if you think you can book something in December for December with that many people.

If you are looking for something casual and kid friendly you may want to check with Acme Oyster House. The have private room. I planned a gathering spur of the moment in Dec about 2-3 weeks out same amount of guest and they were able to accommodate.

In my experience, most places won’t let you do this. They want one payment and it will be a price fix menu.

May want to start making calls if you’re looking for something in December as most things are booked up for Christmas parties.

It’s after Christmas for a birthday dinner. Probably closer to 30 people including kids.

Are you planning on separate checks if everyone is paying for themselves? That could be an issue.
