I like Cate St Seafood. It's owned by one of the sons of the man who owned Trey Yuen. It has a mixture of sushi, sashimi, rolls and the regular Louisiana menu item of poboys and seafood.

Has anyone tried The Boston Restaurant in Amite?
It is basically Cate St. restaurant with practically the same menu. The son of the guy who owns Trey Yuen, owns both of these.

We enjoy the Boston. It’s consistently good and quite popular as there isn’t much else around. I like the hot pepper chicken.

Mariners and Tommy's are good local places to check out.
Mariners seems like the winner here. It looks like it has a big variety on the menu and looks like a cool place.

Tommy’s for pizza or wings.
Commodores is the exact same recipe only with better service and prices (Tommy's staff is terrible: slow and rude, and they are overpriced). Once I discovered Commodores I have not been to Tommy's since.

I worked at Mariners in the early eighties, behind the bar and in the kitchen...the after closing parties were glorious.

Mariners was my favorite place when I lived out there.

That's what my wife tried to tell me, it was not comparable. Tommy's is far superior, the sauce and crust were bad at commodore's.

The Punjabi dhaba at the Shell station on Veterans just south of I12 is pretty solid and definitely fits your not too fancy qualification.
Tried it based on the suggestions on here, and I really liked it. We tried the butter chicken and the jammu chicken and they were good.
We like Thai Greenleaf a lot, Tacos and Beer has some pretty decent options, Tope La is a fantastic higher end option (for Hammond). I like Mariners too, we go there more often than Blackened Brew these days.

I can’t wait to try the Indian place. Last time I went by there I was a little too early. What about Buddies Steakhouse?

I was really impressed with Sarita's on Wardline rd. near the interstate.

Update: we had Mariners. It was good. We loved the inside and patio. I’d definitely return. We also stumbled on Lee’s down the street and are going to try that next. How’s the breakfast there? It seems like a cool place and has a good menu

Lee's is bomb for everything

Mediocre food ... There is no true exceptional places to eat other than Jacmels and Topela

Did you really think bumping a five year old thread to post this crap was a good idea? LOL
