Anyone got any suggestions for places to eat in these areas? Nothing too fancy. Are there any can’t miss spots?

Tommy’s for pizza or wings.
Mariners has good lunch specials.
What are ya in the mood for?

In the mood for something that’s not expensive but not fast food. Maybe something local where you get your moneys worth

Tommy's for pizza
Iron Horse for wings
Your Mom's for burgers
Salty Joe's for BBQ
Mariners for Burgers
Blackened Brew for beer and burgers
Then I can't think of the mexican joint name

Forgot about them, was thinking one across from the region's bank near downtown, Casa Maria maybe?

How’s salty joes? Worth checking out for BBQ?

I've only been once and can say I enjoyed it, unique set up, food wasn't bad, wasn't the best BBQ I've ever had but it was far from the worse. I hear the earlier in the day you go the better as well because of the way they do their meats.

How’s their brisket? That’s the main thing I get at BBQ joints

Dunno, they were out when I went (at night) and I had the pulled pork sandwich which I found good

Pulled pork is alright. If that’s their specialty, then I’ll probably end up elsewhere. I’m kind of a BBQ snob haha

Like I said, brisket and burnt ends were both out when I went. It was a Saturday night so I ordered the pulled pork, not sure what their specialty is.

Tope la is my favorite place in Hammond. Mariners and Tommy's are good local places to check out.

Has Mariners suffered a decline like Brady's

I like Millside in Ponchy. It's just a little fried seafood shack, but they've got cold beer and pretty good food.

That place is a must if you are in that area. Has anyone tried The Boston Restaurant in Amite? I believe it's a relative of the family that runs Trey Yuen. I went and it was fine. Not as good as the now destroyed Trey Yuen in Hammond. Dumb to compare the two though.

Roux and brew is good.
Salty Joe's brisket isn't bad. The sandwich is my favorite thing to get there because of the peppers and queso on top.

The Punjabi dhaba at the Shell station on Veterans just south of I12 is pretty solid and definitely fits your not too fancy qualification.
