Visiting family in northeast Mississippi for Thanksgiving. Any suggestions for a good place to try out a slugburger?

quote:

A slugburger (originally Weeksburger) is a traditional Southern food found in the area of Northeast Mississippi, particularly Corinth, New Albany, Booneville, Iuka, Tishomingo, Burnsville, West Tennessee, and north Alabama, particularly Decatur, Hartselle, Athens, Moulton, and Cullman. Consisting of a patty made from a mixture of beef or pork and an inexpensive meat extender such as soybeans, it is deep fried in oil. It is typically served on a bun with mustard, pickles, onion, and in some places with a side of French fries or onion rings.

You ain’t fully lived until you’ve had Mississippi grandparents introduce you to the regional working class food of Tishomingo and Alcorn Counties.

1: Go to Corinth.

2: Pick either the Slugburger Cafe (duh) or the White Trolley Cafe.

Both are basic breakfast/lunch counters. Appreciate the local atmosphere for what it is at each place.

Several places in Corinth. I went to a place many years ago and can’t remember the name. But they’re all over the place up there.

Save your money. I’ve taken those pills. They don’t work.

Johnnies Drive Inn Tupelo. The iconic restaurant was once Elvis Presley’s favorite Tupelo eating spot and has long been an Elvis tourist hot spot.

Not sure why all the downvotes. Regional foods/oddities of cuisines, colas, etc are fascinating. I could write a book on my visits to the Mississippi Delta alone.

Shiloh battlefield is near Corinth if you do head up that way.

That’s not at all what he asked.

But you’re right about Phillips. It kicks arse

J/k OP. I had actually never heard of a slug burger. Learn something new every day.

Does Abe's have one? I drive by it all of the time passing through Corinth but never around lunch or breakfast; buddy of mine said they have great burgers

Not sure if Abe's offers slugburgers, but from this pic I'm convinced to make Abe's the ultimate fine-dining destination on my next Corinth visit.
