That's awesome! How do they get away with it ?

I think they use shiitakes or portobellos so it won't have hallucinogenic properties.

How is Ancora? I've thought about going a few times but I've never actually gone through with it.

Sounds like it's not so great.

I dunno, that's why I was asking. Your boy R2R made a comment that seemed less than favorable in passing. I wanted more info.

Ancora is great and I love dipping the crust into the plate remnants. The salted caramel ice cream for dessert is money.

Bunch of pizza snobs in here .

My primary problem with Ancora is how greasy their pizzas generally are, resulting in the dough being soggy and seeming to be slightly undercooked.

Also the staff is full of those types of servers who tend to act aloof and above their profession.

On an unrelated note, I was talking to Dave (the owner of the Nail) Sat night and he was in disbelief that certain people were drinking outside beer on the patio the other Sunday

I agree. While obviously some places do it better than others, I dont think i've ever had a terrible pizza. It's one of those things that is hard to mess up.

Theo's, Mellow, Reginelli's are often labeled "terrible" around here. Lol, i dont really get it.

Do you not taste a noticeable difference in those you listed and the pies that are typically regarded more highly?

Yea you can tell the difference. The other places may not be as good, but i wouldnt consider them terrible. If something is terrible, it consider it inedible & i dont find any of those places that bad.

Yeah, some people in here are acting like Mellow is inedible slop like Little Caesars $5 Hot N' Ready.

Fair enough.

Frame of reference question -- what are examples of terrible restaurants for you?

Hmmm, i haven't had a terrible meal in a while.

The last bad meal I had was at Memphis Q in the Beau Rivage. It was a $34 ribeye that was cooked unevenly. Parts of it was well done, other parts medium. The baked potato was half cooked, and very hard.

Id have to rack my brain for terrible NOLA restaurant experiences though. I don't really eat at bad restaurants.

The staff is kind of hipstery like everywhere else on Freret. FWIW I had really good service when I went to Ancora.
