I'll be in NYC for the holidays as well.
I've been looking into restaurants for a couple weeks now, but haven't really been eyeing steakhouses specifically. My logic is, I can always get a good steak somewhere near home, so why not find something I can't normally find.
Check out Strip House or Wolfgang's though. I haven't been but I've heard good things.
If you need other types of restaurant recs I can share some of the places I've come across. NYC food scene is overwhelming at times.

They are Jewish and bought it from a German.
I've been to Peter Lugers twice and it is the only steak I've eaten there simply because way too many other things to eat in New York so I'm no expert. Only went for two reasons, my father had a Peter Luger credit card from the early 60's or late 50's (number is under 4000)and I wanted to use it just because I thought it would be cool which I did.
Second time other friends wanted to go so we did and I forgot the card. My father said write a check which I did and surprised the hell out of me. They will take a personal check from any US state with only personal identification. That is a great leap of faith but I thought that was pretty cool too.
I still have that credit card in my dresser along with a few other personal items and think of my father dining at Peter Lugers as a young man way back then when I look at them. Makes me smile.

had a great dinner at Benjamin steakhouse. Also BLT Steak.
Can't go wrong with Sparks for sure. Never been to Peter Luger's. I've heard its great but the atmosphere is lacking.

To me once you get to the top echelon of steakhouses in NYC they are pretty similar.
I like Del Friscos more than any of the non-chains in NYC. However, it was like my "first love" of steakhouses so I'm a bit bias. If you want the Peter Luger experience without having to do the lines cash etc. then Ben & Jacks may be a happy medium.
Agreed, del friscos is my favorite; they have a bone in filet that's one of the best steaks I've ever had, the sides are fantastic, and the setting/atmosphere is great.
Lugers is the most famous, but I feel overrated, unless you love a porterhouse, because that's the only cut they serve. The Luger sauce is awesome though, but the atmosphere sucks.

I really enjoyed my visit to Lugers, but I can see where it wouldn't be to everyone's taste...

It's the type of play you "have to go to once." I certainly wouldn't be going to BK to get steak when if you drive down from midtown you will pass 30 great spots on the way unless I wanted to say i had gone there.
There was a spot down in the lower 30s and Park that was awesome called "Primehouse." Closed a few years ago but it was a great spot with a good ambiance that most of the steakhouses just don't offer (they are so stuffy)

I haven't been to the others mentioned besides Del Frisco's, but Keen's was a really cool old NYC atmosphere, with great food. Mutton chops and T-bone were both great. The upper room was nice.

Many cities have a good steakhouse. Why go to NYC and eat at a steakhouse? Seems a pretty poor value. Go eat somewhere in NYC that legitimately offers something you can't get at home.

I've been to Old Homestead. It's really good.

I would say Club A was better than Del Friscos. A little more fancy feel with dim lighting and what not.
