Well at one point it was what you would call a "live music club." Sublime gave a shoutout on 40 Oz to Freedom. But when any of us were there, it was just a cheesy dump where high school kids got their drink on.

Yep, that's it - pretty much the worst place to see a band ever.

I only saw one or two concerts there, but I know back in the day, they used to have some legendary bands in there.

Unless it's changed after 8 it became high school heaven until about 12, before 8 just a local neighborhood hang out place.

They did have some very cool bands pass through Jimmy's, but the place always sounded horrible, and bands could never hear themselves onstage...it was a lose, lose situation.

I would wager that less than 1% of the crowd in Bruno's are high schoolers.

I went to the Sazerac Bar last Thursday. The renovations are beautiful. They need at least some background music. Bad music is better than no music at all.

I noticed the same thing. I went for the first time last weekend with admittedly high expectations, but I was not impressed with the bar at all. It's small, there was no music, it smelled kind of like a bathroom and it was way too brightly lit. The drinks were great, but that's not exactly hard to find in NO. I won't be going back. The lobby did look great though.

Spotted Cat (is it still there?)

It's not open. Tried to go last night, but the building has a new sign (Jimmy's or Something). Asked a resident what happened and he said the two owners got into a fight which ended with a hammer in one of their heads. One of the owners is trying to open back up apparently(I would guess the one without the hammer marks in his skull). New Orleans- never boring. But I did hear some great jazz on Bourbon Street at the Funky Pirate. 395 lbs. of soul named Big Al. Great music.

Technically it was Club KAOZ. They had a very large Asian biker gang contingent there.

And even when it's not packed I still feel like I need a megaphone to talk to the person sitting right next to me.

If I'm in the mood for watching sports, I usually gravitate to Ryan's on Decatur. They have a dozen TVs and the sports packages. I can usually strike up good conversation with folks from out of town too.

I used to love the Basin before Katrina, though never walked in before 4 am...

Also, can't go wrong with R Bar...

I remembered reading this thread a while back and noticing that there were a few posts of favorite bars that included places I'm always at (Columns, dba, Delachaise, Bridge, Ms Mae's, Mimi's, Balcony Bar, Bruno's} and Mayfair, but I've never been there. Maybe it's because I've always lived in Old Metairie and Lakeview, but I'm surprised I have never been, especially with its proximity to the Columns and Delachaise. Which of the bars that I listed is it most similar to?
