Not sure if the best, but Arabi Food Store will kill it for a hot muff.

A good friend of mine just opened up in St. Roch Market. Nuccio's. He and his wife run it. They serve a muff. I've never had it, but I've eaten their food many times and never been disappointed. They make their own olive salad, which is really good. Just my .02

Central Grocery

Others are good but I think this one is still the best. No way they are open again, their building is wrecked and they are fighting with insurance about it. But they still make sandwiches and sell em at the liquor store next door.

DiMartino’s is heated - or do you ask them not to?

You can get it heated, not heated, or packed for traveling. (Or, you could get the packed at some point in the past. It was best to call and order a day ahead of time. My relatives from Georgia would chill eight of them in an ice chest on the way out of town when they'd come visit before my uncle passed away.)

This is your go to spot for po-boys and sammiches

It's the original and really everyone competes for second place. Di Martino's does a good heated muffaletta, but it was always meant to be a cold sandwich. It was designed for working class Sicilians back about 100 years ago. Some meat , dense bread cheese and olive salad. Get it and go.

We could combine them. Dimartinos has roast beef on muffuletta bread. It's pretty good.

Friend, Frank and Phil Gagliano do a very good job on all of their po-boys and are a worthy contributor to the muffaletta scene. However, the Tusas are the undisputed makers of the sandwich....after all, they invented it

Friend,

It's ashame you are to scared to visit the French Market these days. Latoya's New Orleans is a frightful place. I fear that Mother may be weary of the Decatur vagrants.

Alas, Alberto's in the French Market is excellent and is deserving of the #2 ranking only after a pre-Ida Central Grocery. Thus, it is de facto the current number...eclipsing Nor Joes, which is a far more convenient option for me, as a lifelong resident of beautiful Old Metairie.

One of my companies can provide you and mother black car SUV service if you fear the crime of Lower Decatur, which you so often opine about...

Friend,

Where did you get the idea that I was afraid of the Quarter? Mother and I spent the day there last weekend, having walked a long distance. We even got to see the group Beyond Small Faith before I walked to your neighborhood in Old Metairie and got a pizza at Tower. Why just a few days ago i performed on the corner of St Louis and Royal. It was the only corner open. I will have to give you recommendation a fry.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

I don’t subscribe to cold. I subscribe to room temp. Late 1800s/early 1900s refrigeration wasn’t common. And cured meats, cheeses, and olives have always been stable at room temps. So agree with thoughts above a muffuletta was made, sat for a few hours, and was not cold, not hot. And that when it is at its best.

Is "Mother" your mom, or your wife?
