It's so hard to get excited for any Tex Mex in BR once you have had El Tiempo Cantina in Houston.

I'll throw in my vote for Mis Padres, but only the Prairieville location --- and it's mostly because Mis Padres AFAIK is the only Tex Mex restaurant that makes their flour tortillas (except for Tio Javi's - but I wrote them off a long time ago).

JoVi’s Tacos on Coursey is good - they make their own tortillas

Ideal Market is good

And Tacos del Mosco food truck on airline and Jefferson is good but it’s not ‘cheap’

I know it's super cool to hate on Superior but their fajitas are very good.

Reals Hispanics eat there. That’s good enough for me.

Real Hispanics eat at Taco Bell and real Asians eat at Panda Express.
I don’t subscribe to that method of choosing.

After seeing two roaches chase each other by the serving counter... won't go back again. No telling what's behind the counter.

This is from their own instagram page. They are awful and expensive. This plate will run you close to $30 before tax and tip. Literally, the only thing good at SG is the atmosphere

Lunch mesquite fajitas are $16.50 and look nothing like that. I recommend them if you can loosen your purse strings.

superior blows but its not hard to make decent fajitas. They blow because the tortillas and salsa are disrespectfully bad but people in BR don't know any better.

It is like a Po boy, the easiest part is the protein but getting the bread right makes the sandwich.

Superior is a great Baton Rouge restaurant. We aren't in Houston, so stop trying to compare Baton Rouge Mexican joints to those in Houston. It's what we have, so enjoy it. When the best Houston TexMex comes to Baton Rouge, then you can say Superior sucks.

Superior is the most popular pick for best Mexican in BR, therefore half of this board automatically hates it. Rio Grande is that restaurant that nobody talks about, therefore that same half claims it's the best. Why? Because they want to "be different".

It's hard to truly say the best Mexican restaurant. Some like one over another for fajitas, or price, or margaritas, or enchiladas, or chips and salsa, or atmosphere. Each has positives and negatives. Not everyone gets fajitas and margaritas. So, instead of telling us the best, why don't y'all tell us your favorite and why? That would bring so much more to the discussion.
