Ginos. Digulios is pretty good but more of a place to go to be seen. they also may elect to sit you outside in the gravel almost under the interstate. Not the best atmosphere.

I think Pinetta's has the best red sauce in town

Bad news for you there it’s been closed for years now

Ginos is the best red gravy Italian place in the state. It’s not even close.
Gino doesn't lean heavily on sugar, so many places do. It captures the rich flavor I remember from my Sicilian relatives.

Fratellis in central is good.

Unfortunately closed now for a couple years. But yes, it was great.
Nino’s is my favorite Italian restaurant in BR. Bistro Italia is also great. I know people love Gino’s, but I find it to be just okay. But it’s probably this board’s favorite.

If you go to Gino’s and order the calamari, sub the regular marinara with the spicy marinara. So good.
Wife and I went to La Contea a few years ago. The chicken on the chicken Parmesan was so off putting we ended up not really eating anything. I can’t even describe how f’ed up that chicken was. Anyway, hard to go back after that experience. Tell me why I need to give them another shot?
BTW, wife and I are both Sicilian so we admittedly do judge Italian food. If we are going to go out for Italian it needs to be at least on par with what we ourselves can throw together. We like Gino’s but specific dishes, not everything

I also like Palermo's. Went there Friday night and it was great.

Well there’s pretty much only two genuine Italian restaurants in BR.

I’ve always been the big fan of Digilios but lately it’s been meh. The sauce ends up being a bunch of tomato chucks on top of noodles in a puddle of tomatoe water.
So I have gone go Gino’s the last few times i’ve wanted Italian out and really enjoyed it, sans the time
I got chicken parm wich comes with mushroom onion and peppers between the cheese and chicken.

I love Monjuni's especially the meatballs.
The take-out Lasagna at Canatella's is one of the best in town, as is the Lasagna at Portobello's.
