I just roasted some brussel sprouts that had a ‘Best Eaten by’ date of 5/31. My fridge is apparently poorly organized because my vegetable drawer often freezes, so I attribute their long shelf life partly to that.
I checked for all the signs of spoilage- not mushy, didn’t smell bad (no worse than normal), leaves were still green.
What’s the oldest thing you’ve still cooked and enjoyed?

I recently ate some blue cheese crumbles that had been in my fridge for probably 9 months to a year. That day I learned that just because blue cheese is already moldy it doesn't mean that it has an infinite shelf life. Not all mold is created equal.

Five year old Philadelphia cream cheese. It was in the second fridge, unopened. All I needed was a couple of tablespoons. I lived.

Had a can of sliced peaches yesterday with a January 2020 exp date. I’m still here.

Mom died 10 years ago. Found some of her pickled green tomatoes in the sub basement cellar from 1996. They were fantastic and I shared them with the kids and grandkids who also liked them. Now we have to find her recipe.

I had a second unopened one with the same date. After taking the little bit I needed for a recipe, I tossed them both.
