Still deli for lunch but not really sure why they call it that you can still get gumbo and there are some non-deli entrees.

As stated, K-Paul's has excellent gumbo. Mr. B's is as good IMHO, but the dining experience is nicer at Mr. B's. Mr. B's was one of the country's first places to start having tall booth's.

The I may prefer the overall menu at K-Paul's to Mr. B's, but for just gumbo and dining experience, I want Mr. B's.

My 2 cents..

For all the NOLA residents.

Do you mostly eat gumbos in restaurants or at home?

I have a theory that NOLA residents eat out more, and thus their experience with gumbo, is majority from restaurants than at home. This is due to the number of great restaurants in the area.

On the flipside, i believe BR residents gumbo experience is from the home, not restaurants.

I've had good gumbo in new orleans restaurants. But i've never had a better gumbo than a homemade gumbo, and the majority of my gumbo tastings are home made.

Yeah, it's strange. They change it up a bit, also, I believe. He just needs to check in case some of them want the dinner menu meals, as well. Wouldn't want them to be disappointed if they're looking for more than what's served at lunch.

I eat it out when I either already know it's good or have heard it's good. I do take the risk sometimes just to get it out of my system.
However, yeah, homemade gumbo is usually better than restaurant gumbo except for Don's shrimp gumbo, of course. Mine's pretty close, but I give Don's the edge. I use Paul P's method as a base for my gumbo, but mine's better than his.

is there are more "cajun" food as objective as gumbo?

i know in my family, we all like it a bit different. some like heavy roux, some medium and so on..

it seems that this cajun food item is debated more than any other.

(jambalaya would be a close second followed and or tied with crawfish ettouffee)

I believe it's the #1 debated food of that area and the creole area. You say "tomahtoe". I say NO WAY.

The lunch menu at KPaul's is very different from the dinner. They share some similar items like the gumbo, blackened drum, and the jamb but for the most part they remain completely different except for Saturday night if there's some left over from lunch

I have a company meeting in Nola in next month and people from up north are already asking me where to get some good gumbo when they get here. I rarely if ever eat gumbo when I'm in Nola so I come to the experts of the F & D board for suggestions. One of the nights the company dinner will be at ACME so that is one option but I'm sure there are better places.

I'll have to agree with K-Pauls too. Also the fried oysters there are some of the best i've ever eaten and i've had many.

Don't know about the best because I haven't sampled all gumbos in the FQ, but Mr. B's is very popular and I would also suggest K-Paul's.
