Tried woodford and absolutely hayed it. Passed it to two buddies there and they were of same opinion. Reminded me of lighter fluid.

bourbon with a GOOD Ginger Ale

I'm all about a bourbon and ginger, but what is exactly is a "GOOD ginger ale"? I've heard of people paying 3 dollars more for "GOOD" tonic water for their gin/tonics, but I find it ridiculous to pay 6 dollars for a bottle of tonic water.

The best for under $50 is a glass of Pappy Van Winkle 23.
If you want a whole bottle then Elijah Craig 18 is a great bourbon.

Do you mean ginger beer?

I prefer ginger beer to ale. Has a lot more taste. Really good with dark rum.

Tastes vary so much from person to person it is really best to get a couple of good bourbons and do a blind taste test. I would even throw in a few cheap bourbons. Put a number on the bottom of a shot glass and have someone record what is what. I bet the one you think you like best is not the one you pick in a blind test.
If you are mixing it with anything then just go with the cheap stuff. I keep a handle of George Dickle for mixing with coke.

Yes. Dark and Stormy with Goslings Black Seal rum is a great summer cocktail.

Never tried bourbon with ginger beer/ale. I drink my bourbon on the rocks and have not mixed it with anything since the old bourbon and coke days of my youth.

Yeah, I have never had a bourbon that I didn't like, but if you are mixing just use the cheap stuff.

Definitely gonna have to try this Blanton though. Surprised I never have.

I like rum and ginger beer so I will give bourbon and ginger beer a try this summer.

Things are good. The Marcello's people had a balcony suite at the Royal Sonesta over the BCS weekend and lots of the restaurant people where there. Good times.

BTW, if you have not done a bourbon with a GOOD Ginger Ale, then you're missing out. I was recently turned on to this - and I love it.

Any recommendations of some "other than run of the mill" ginger ale that you've had success with mixing.

Not sure if you saw my post earlier, but have you tried either Elmer T Lee or Rock Hill Farms?

Did not. Did not mean to ignore you.

No, I have not. As I've said in earlier posts, a few years back I went all in and tried most of the big name small batch/single cask bourbons (Blanton's, Pappy's, Basil Hayden, Bookers, Woodford, etc), but I did not taste these 2. I recently tried Black Maple Hill and was impressed.

If you ever get a chance, go taste those two. They are all made from the same mash bill at Buffalo Trace. Theory is that Elmer T Lee is the youngest, Blanton's is in the middle and Rock Hill Farms is the oldest. I did a side by side tasting of the Blanton's and Rock Hill Farms tonight and I have to give the edge to Rock Hill Farms. You can definitely taste more complexity and it's usually only about $5 more per fifth.
